Number of Teacher Recommendations

Hello,

I have already had two teachers send out their recommendations. I am realizing that there is one other teacher (who has also worked closely with me in an EC) I have that could really add a lot in a recommendation. Do schools generally allow or encourage you to submit three teacher recommendations through the Common App or should I alternatively have him write a supp recommendation? Is three too much?

My top-choice schools are Harvard, Penn, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, and MIT.

In general 2 teacher recommendations is the maximum. I would only ask the third teacher if it is a supplemental recommendation that can speak to personal attributes that the teacher has seen outside of the classroom through ECs.

He could write it as an “other” recommender if the school allows one.
