Number of times to take ACT?

I have heard that there may be a stigma set on testers who take the ACT more than three times. I took the June ACT as a sophomore, and I got a 30. I was really pleased! However, I would really like to score a 34+ by the end of junior year. Should I count this as a part of my "number of times taken"? I essentially took it to gauge my level going into junior year. If so, what dates would you all recommend to take the exam? Secondly, if you personally send colleges scores from act.org, why does it matter the number of times you have taken the exam? All comments are appreciated!

Well you can pretty much remove from your record any tests on which you don’t think you did well enough. There is a limit of 12 attempts though. It is kind of silly how they give people such an extraordinary amount of tries. In my opinion, the limit should be three or four. We’re lucky the ACT creators are so lenient.

Take maybe once at the end of junior year, or twice in senior year and no more. Taking more times won’t help.

Taking the ACT once as a sophomore and once as a junior is totally respectable. I’d aim for the end of junior year.

Only take it one more time. Studies for standardized tests show improvement between first and second tests, but not much for subsequent tests.

I took it twice. 24 then a 29
