Numbers

Some interesting numbers on the class of 2009, from the Baltimore Sun:

"...the school recently admitted 723 student in their early decision project, their biggest class ever. Nearly 11,800 students applied for the fall of 2005 class, a 12 percent increase over the previous year, university officials said."

What? They accepted 723 students ED? Their class is only a bit over 1000 kids, baltimore sun screwed something up I think.

I certainly hope so...Otherwise, that definitely stiffens the competition for RD'ers! :)

that scares me o_o. i shoulda applied ED.

and warblersrule, aren't you from the unc-ch forum also? just out of curiousity, where in nc are you from?

Yes, I'm also from the UNC forum. :)
I'm from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Official numbers:
ED total apps: 723
ED acceptances:379
Total RD apps: 11,800
Projected RD Acceptances: 2900
Projected Total Acceptance rate = 27.8%

that sounds a bit more realistic. i read that baltimore sun article also. theres no way they would take ~70% of their total acceptances early. so, who screwed up is the question.

johnkgh where did you get this numbers? Are you the guy who works in the admissions office?

Nope. The numbers come from the sun article above and this: http://www.ingenuityproject.org/comp_awards/Baltimore_Scholars.htm

The four Baltimore students are all honors students and scored more than 1,100 on their SATs.

Shouldn't this read more than 1,300 or more than 1,400? Why would JHU accept students with SATs merely over 1,100?

They are from the city and did not have access to SAT prep classes. And also as sad as it may be, these 4 may be the best baltimore city has to offer (although the harrison kid does sound impressive)

What are the numbers for BMEs, engineers in general, and hard science majors?
I'm mostly interested in BMEs though, thank you.

you obviously don't know what it's like to be a poor, disadvantaged, inner city minority.

the harrison kid is now also a intel finalist and hes gonna go compete in DC
so...we're not the best the city has to offer, more like the best the country has to offer

also, 3 out ouf 4 of us has done research at hopkins and center of marine biotechnology downtown for the past 2 years, we have a siemens semifinalist

oh and another kid is taking undergrad math classes at hopkins U, and is the top of his class and got a 100 in one of those classes....and he's 15
also 3/4 four of us are in an advanced math/science program and we're NOT disadvantaged, we just dont have rich parents to pay for school and your As, we are smart enough to get As on our own.

"the harrison kid is now also a intel finalist and hes gonna go compete in DC
so...we're not the best the city has to offer, more like the best the country has to offer"-he seems like it. But I doubt you are.

"we just dont have rich parents to pay for school and your As, we are smart enough to get As on our own"

Are u saying that our parents buy our A's?, I personally am a public school kid and work very hard to get my A's.

haha john, and were you ever an intel finalist, or even a siemens semifinalist? did you work at labs in high school? were you able to beat undergrads at 15 in math? HAHA i dont think so. so dont say things about people you dont even know about. you're at hopkins, and so am i, so that doesnt make you any better than me, and did you get into bme without even applying? were you offered extra scholarship money in addition to full tuition? hmm...i doubt you're any of those things. you're such a moron

you need to get a damn life and stop going on this forum as an undergrad, if u have so much free time, why dont you go find out more about baltimore city public school students before you start sayin sht about them
and you're right, i'm NOT the best this country has to offer....but you're not either.
