Do my eyes deceive me or is the ED acceptance rate 48%?
478/1005?

Yes, thats correct. As high as this is, this was lower than the utterly ridiculous 63% from 3 years ago. JHU seems to rely on ED alot more so than its peer schools. Partly in hopes of getting more students who want to be there and to make up for poor RD yield.

they said they wanted to fill 1/3 of the class with ed'ers, which means that with the 478 accepted, they gotta cut down on their rd acceptances. i think. unless they plan to increase the overall size of the incoming class.

Even talking about this makes me jealous that I haven't received my ED notification. I think I'm just going to stop visiting CC until I receive my notice from the snail mail.

jose1, if you don't mind me asking, what source gave you that info?

Go look at the message board on JHU..
i don't have the link though

the admissions board posted it, so its pretty much official

The RD admit rate could drop incredibly this year, because I doubt the incoming class will be 1500 kids. The class of 2009 is 1140 and there were overenrollment issues. Scary for those RDers.

I doubt it. JHU has really poor RD yield.

Yeah i know, but i fugure the class will be about 1200 kids right? So that leaves 722 spots left. With a 29% yield, like last year, they would need to accept about 2500 students to fill those 722 spots. Last year, JHU got like 11300 apps overall, so about 10600 RD for the class of 2009. Suppose they get 11300 apps RD this year which leaves a 22% RD admit rate and a 24% Overall admit. I dunno, the math is really estimated but still, it's quite low as compared to previous years.

You overestimated. RD yield is low 20s. The 29% figure included ED admits. JHU sucks at selectivity. But thats not why I came.

ah. i knew i forgot to factor something out of something. I didn't base my choice on selectivity either, though i find the numbers interesting (for all schools, not just JHU).

hmm... so i have a good shot at jhu? no.2 choice behind penn's deferral ouch

If you couldn't get into Penn ED, then probably not.

penn ed at 25%... yep, that's clearly the equivalent of jhu rd ;)

Unless it was wharton, penn ED is equivalent to JHU rd. JHU's rd rate is with the exception of last year is low 20s.

oy, that doesn't change the fact that the average numbers accepted for penn are significantly higher than those for jhu, which isn't an insult, it just means that they look for different things

i applied to seas, which had a 42% increase in apps, penn had a 21% overall increase, which knocked ed down quite a bit this year

i'm not usually argumentative... :(
