NUS Medical School

Hey, here's a shout out to all international students (or sporeans) who were accepted / planning to apply to med sch at NUS...

Feel free to post anything! Stats, an intro to urself, questions, whatever...haha...this is my first post at CC. I'll be matriculating at NUS nxt august...

Question: Have you received the admission offer from NUS? Mind sharing your stats?
I am planning to apply to NUS next year. Just finished my A-levels(half a hr ago;)). Btw does an AAA guarantees admission into NUS med school?

Definitely not. Interview has a high weightage.

And NUS MED is quite competitive so 4 As is the norm with a good GP score and possibly 'S' Papers. There are a minority of students with 3A's and a B or other scores but there is no such thing as a guaranteed admission really.

From what I know, at least 4As and B3 for GP. :D

What about admission into other programs? What kind of stats do you need?

What courses are you interested in?

yep, alr offered a place, i'm just waiting to matriculate. erm, what everyone has said is about right...they look at 3 subs anw, so an AAA with a GP grade of A2 and above should be enough to be shortlisted for an interview.

Thereafter, the grades mean squat as everything else rests upon the 2 interviews, your admissions essay, curriculum vitae and written test. There's also a psychometric test you take, which ad com says isnt used for admissions but you never know...haha..

Good luck for your A's!

Economics, DDP in Engineering and Econ

......bump.

I am an American student deciding to apply for undergrad in the yoo lin school of medicine, I just wanted to know how competitive is it for a student with a GPA of 3.85 (unweighted), 2040 sat, 790(chem), 740(math 2c), 740(bio) sat 2 tests. and how in the world do i apply the application is so complicated. Thanks

hello indignation. I'm not sure how competitive ur scores are as I have yet to meet any americans in the faculty...but you have satisfied the basic requirements for SAT II (chem and math) so why don't you just go ahead and apply anw and see what happens..

you'll have to fax your score reports to NUS directly @ (65) 6778 7570 . From the website: "The score reports must reach the Office of Admissions by your application closing date (28 Feb 2007) failing which your application will be deemed incomplete and withdrawn from consideration".

I read somewhere that our medical school has an acceptance rate of 4-5% with an intake averaging 250 students each yr. However, Ive noticed several international students in the faculty...so it cant be that hard.

To boost ur chances I suggest u submit a portfolio as well with ur list of ECs , research work, volunteer programs etc. Adcom loves such things and if u really wanna go to med sch then u'd do whatever it takes i suppose.

Thank you warmbrownie, also what is the secondary school result?

erm...ur high school transcript? im not sure.

anw, why NUS? because you dont want to do pre med in the states? oh btw, its the yong loo lin sch of medicine..not yoo lin. arh but no one callls it that here anw...we still prefer to call it the med fac..short and sweet.

haha, yeah i know its yong loo lin ; i dont know what happened.

hey what kinda stats do i need to get in the school of computing for computer science, i m an international, studying in a CBSE(indian) school

ppl say,90%+ will b OK for CS/Computer engineering but 95% is a sure shot!!!.......

thats a bit of relief for me...
in another thread when i asked the same question...ppl were like 95% or atleast 93%,
many say its possible, but as far as i know, gettin more than 90% in boards involves a bit of luck, and u gotta be a nerd as in sit and study 24hrs a day.

Yup..........u hav to b really nerd!!!..lol.....thankfully I m not that one...hehe.....

bump bump bump
