I'm an Indian student in my senior year with Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Computer Science under the ISC board. I got 91.4% in my 10th Grade (ICSE) and am expecting about 92-95% in my 12th (ISC). I have good extra curriculur skills (Quizzing, Debating, Writing, Gaming) including about 8 months of work exp. at a Tech Firm in India. What are my chances of getting through NUS/NTU? I want to pursue Computer Science/Engineering. Thanks in advance.

lol so gaming is actually considered an EC?? hey i should come out tops i took part in the WCG!!

u'll get in...doesnt take a phd in applied linguistics to figure that out =)

for ntu u should aply with your class 10 score and they will shortlist you for an entrance exam(u will surely be shortlisted). but the deadline was dec 31st 2007.
for nus i think ur scores won'tbe enough as they need something above 95% especially for something like comp. science
and these uni don't give a **** about ur ec's until and unless they are at the int'l level

lol 92% in grades cant get into NUS???

@symbianparadize: NTU's deadline has long passed. I was recently shortlisted for the entrance exam actually. But NUS has extended the deadline for internationals (or Indians, I am not sure) to April 1st. As long as you have a good score in your board examinations, say more than 92-95% then you will definitely stand a great chance. As for the EC's, like someone mentioned, it doesnt carry much weight, unless its at the national or international level.

i think 92-95% is not enough for nus
u need to have atleast above 95% thats what the admission officer who came to my school said
and it is true

and shrut how r u goin to prepare for ntu entrance exam????

Its Shruthi btw :) I am in the process of taking my final exams for grade 12 and the NTU rep who came to my school said that preparation for these board exams would be more than sufficient.. So I guess I'd just go through the stuff once more before I take the exam.

but shruti, did u check out the sample papers
there r questions about functions, graphs etc. - stuff we don't learn in cbse
i think board exam prpe is not enough.

btw how much did u get in 10th???

I got 98 in math and 96 in science in tenth. But my total wasnt great because of language.. Got 92.8 :( I have been preparing for IIT JEE for the past 4 years, so it wasnt that bad. Just looked through the sample papers. Just go through the text books, and try to get a couple of books of AIEEE/JEE standard and go through them also if possible. I think that would be enough.

applying for scholarships shruth?

Yeah... SIA NOL and Nanyang I guess....

I'm entering my senior year right now. I'm focusing just on Singapore so I need to make sure I get through NUS/NTU. Is there anything else that could help. I mean 92 (ICSE) and 92-95(ISC) aren't good enough for Computer Science? I qualified for the National Informatics Olympiad twice, but I coudn't give it once because of ICSE :(

Oh! NUS will take olympiads into consideration only if you qualify for the international level or so. Or if you're an otherwise strong applicant, and they have to choose btw you and an almost equally strong applicant. You need to get a good score in your 12th. Its not that 92-95 isnt good enough, but ISC is tougher than CBSE to a certain extent, so they might consider it on par. So chill! Dont worry. Do apply, and see how it goes. NTU will shortlist you for the entrance based only on your 10th score. So I guess you'd get through that. Then prepare well for their entrance and do well! NUS is a little more arbitary, but as long as you get a good score in your 12th it shouldnt be a problem.

should combine this with the NUS thread....lots of interesting posts there =)

@shruthibaskaran: Ohkay. Its a little easier for commerce people to score in ISC. How are you preparing for the the NTU entrance?

Oh. I am not preparing as such for the NTU entrance. I have been preparing for the JEE, so I am guessing that would be enough. Since JEE is on the 13th and NTU is only on the 16th/17th for me

Okie. Best of Luck ahead.
Thanks for the advice.

I scored :

80.2% in ICSE
Band 7 in IELTS
expecting 91% in ISC

how are my chances to get admitted to NTU or SMU ??
Should I try…??

well yeah you should … but i mean to be honest … the only thing that really really matters is your board marks… so get that phy chem math to around 95 and you re good

PS hasn t NTU taken away the entrance exam … if so . i highly recommend it for engin !

SMU has a 50% acceptance rate as of 2009.
