I'm very health-conscious and I definitely want to make sure that I can hold off the freshman 15. I'm just curious about the nutrition of the food offered at the dorms (and I'm sure that it varies), the gyms (how many are on/near campus, which are the best, where they are in relation to dorms), and how easy you have found it to be to fit regular exercise into your schedules.

there are always salads, burgers, sandwiches etc in dining halls, so it’s really up to you on how healthy you want for food to be. Last year when I lived in dorms, I didn’t really have time to go to the gym because i’m always either hanging out with friends or working. But this past semester I’ve gone about 3 times a week(2 hrs+ per visit), the gyms are open till like 1 am so it’s very flexible.

It depends on how picky you are with the food. A lot of the healthy food in the dining halls tastes horrible, and if you eat out often its hard to control the number of calories. Gyms are really good though, and there are many sporting facilities (like squash courts, fields, etc) open till late so exercising is not a problem

They have a thing you can go to online and check the nutrition facts and ingredients for every menu item which is very helpful. I’ve never been to the gym, I live in a dorm with an exercise room and I have an elliptical in my dorm room. shrug

It’s a small elliptical that can be in my closet when not in use.

Given the frequency of these types of conversations, I am beginning to think my dorm must be some kind of mary poppins carpet bag type thing. I’m convinced I have at least six times as much stuff in my room as everyone else, but my room is perfectly organized and uncluttered. I am coming back from break with a stand mixer and I don’t care if it’s weird! :P

Newberry. It’s all girls. The exercise room doesn’t have much, an elliptical or two, a nordic track thing, some spin boards, a tv and dvd player (for aerobics dvds, etc), some machine I don’t know the name of, and some mats for pilates and stuff. There’s never anybody using it so unless you’re looking for weight equipment/more versatility it’s sufficient. There is little besides elliptical and pilates that my body will tolerate so I am all set.

I’ve never heard anyone complaining that the CCRB wasn’t meeting their needs, I am just a fuddyduddy and prefer an all-female workout environment so I’ve never been there.
