NY------> Montreal

ANybody know how long it takes by car?

train?

Plan? (im assuming an hour or so) Price?

What is the best way to get there?

Last summer I drove there from NYC and it took 11 hours because of severe traffic on I-87. It took 1.5 hours to get through customs at the Border. Coming home took 7 hours.

Train/plane/bus will all set you back around $200 round trip. The plane ride is less than 2 hours, but the train and bus are 10+.

train is NOT worth it. you have to transfer in new haven and could wait a bunch of extra hours.

if you're going at times such that you won't hit traffic, it's about 400 miles, so 7-8 hours. with traffic, who knows.

I recommend taking a plane. cheap-ish, and you can read while in transit.

plane is ~$350 and takes about an hour and a half. (plus leave 2.5 hours lead time and 1.5 hours of "getting off the plane, and getting baggage" plus aerobus to get from remote airport to town; total 5.5 hours)

train is about ~$120, but it's slow, >10hrs in transit plus unknown lead time. (think that the montreal train station is actually located near downtown)

bus is about $100, and takes about 8 hours for transit, dunno about travel time to bus terminal.

dunno about car, but if you own one in manhattan you probably don't care about $350 plane tickets. maybe you could rent one cheap, but i suspect you'd probably have to add something costly to your rental to be allowed to take it out of the country.

huh? the train is nonstop, doesn't go anywhere near new haven, is about 11 hours long, and costs about $50-$60 each way (depending on when you book and whether you apply discounts). it's called the adirondack (as it travels right through the adirondacks), operated by amtrak, and is probably the most scenic route offered in the northeast. i did it about two years ago to visit mcgill and wouldn't mind doing it again. an amazingly relaxing ride. just watched half of the first season of 24 in the cafe car and the time flew by. if you have the time, do it.

HAHHA thanks everyone.
in conclusion...

PLANE IT IS!

funny though, its so cheap haa

Hey phillibuster, are you FROM Montreal too!??!?!

Or are you interested in visiting my hometown? XP

HAHA my long long term gf is going to McGill =P
been happily together for +4 years.

(managed a France-Hong Kong long distance relationship for 2.5 years)

so im assuming this is gonna be easy haha

(I gott make sure i dunt get too invovled with the partying/girls in NYC
and hopfully my INTENSE major will keep be too busy haha)

I was talking about the Vermonter, which ended up in Montreal from what I (falsely) recalled. Upon review, I'm an idiot. Sorry J.

And watch out for that 24. Your GPA is liable to go in the corner and shoot itself. But my roommate has the first 3 seasons, so let me know if you want to borrow :)

oops. that should've read no transfers, not nonstop. it does make quite a few stops. thanks for the offer, but after tonight, i've all but lost interest in 24. i'll let you know when i'm back in new york though!

definitely quit if you can. it's like TV crack. At least with something like Law & Order, every episode is self-contained, you can walk away after your hour is over.

brb gotta get my fix.
