<p>There was an article in NY Times today detailing the numbers of applicants for various colleges around the country. If the information is accurate, CMC had a 12.5% increase in applicants from last year, breaking 5,000 for the first time. CMC's total applications have risen every year for as long as I can remember. I think this would attest to the growing popularity of CMC and the recognition among kids around the country of the elite status of CMC among its liberal arts brethren as well as its particularly strong economic/finance, govt/political science, international relations programs and its other liberal arts offerings.</p>
<p>because of the increase in apps and the number of students they want to admit to avoid housing shortages, the acceptance rate is expected to drop to 11.7% this year… yikes!</p>
<p>Why does CMS or Pomona always have to jump to compare themselves? I actually think they are two totally different types of schools and largely draw on different populations. Just because they have proximity does not have to mean they have to compete. I actually find their populations to coexist nicely together for the most part. It is really sort of discouraging…</p>
