There was an article in NY Times today detailing the numbers of applicants for various colleges around the country. If the information is accurate, CMC had a 12.5% increase in applicants from last year, breaking 5,000 for the first time. CMC's total applications have risen every year for as long as I can remember. I think this would attest to the growing popularity of CMC and the recognition among kids around the country of the elite status of CMC among its liberal arts brethren as well as its particularly strong economic/finance, govt/political science, international relations programs and its other liberal arts offerings.

Okay, I can’t get it to format correctly. The number of applications has increased from 4,481 in 2011 to 5041 in 2012, a 12.5% increase.

I think this is the article you are referencing: [Applications Surge to Berkeley and Virginia - NYTimes.com](Applications Surge to Berkeley and Virginia - The New York Times)

the cmc student newspaper also has an article about this -
[CMC Receives Record Number of Applications Forum | The Official Student Publication of Claremont McKenna College](http://cmcforum.com/news/01232012-cmc-receives-record-number-of-applications)

because of the increase in apps and the number of students they want to admit to avoid housing shortages, the acceptance rate is expected to drop to 11.7% this year… yikes!

Article is incorrect. CMC was more selective than Pomona last year.

You can cut the tension with a knife :D

who knows, maybe they misreported that too.

Why does CMS or Pomona always have to jump to compare themselves? I actually think they are two totally different types of schools and largely draw on different populations. Just because they have proximity does not have to mean they have to compete. I actually find their populations to coexist nicely together for the most part. It is really sort of discouraging…
