NYC AUDITION WEAR

Hello! In 2 weeks I am going to New York to audition for NYU for Musical Theatre and SUNY Purchase for Theatre. Since it is January, New York is going to be FREEZING and I am taking the subway and then walking 1-2 blocks to wherever the audition is held. What should I wear because I will be outside!
I have seen that many girls like to wear dresses, however I am uncomfortable with that due to the weather predictions. I was thinking about dress pants and a nice shirt, and then character shoes because I would be comfortable walking a few blocks in them. Please help! I don’t want to freeze to death but I also want to look presentable!

I know next to nothing about audition clothes…but I would for sure plan on wearing boots of some sort and carrying my character shoes in a backpack to change in to whan I arrrive at the designated location.

Additionally, the NYU MT audition has a dance component and they allow time to change. Should I wear something that I can dance in (for example leggings and a loose shirt) to walk there and then change into my dress pants and shirt? Please help!

If the dance call for NYU is first that would work. Many kids change in bathrooms or wear pants under dresses while outside and take them off once there. Be warm outside and carry what you need to audition in.

Ditto - wear what’s warm while you’re outside! And don’t wear your character shoes with your audition clothes - only for the dance call. Put good shoes/dance shoes in a bag and change when you arrive.

Even in my office in midtown, people have been know to wear sweatpants over their tights while wearing skirts and then take them off when they get to the office… pretty common sense.

Side note - When my D auditioned at CMU it was a FREEZING cold (-5) kind of day. Idk what people wore for the walk into the building… but there were a number of girls there in sleeveless dresses who just looked COLD - even inside. I can only think it would have been distracting for them

My D did all her winter auditions (both on campus and unifieds) in one of a couple long sleeved dresses, and tall boots. She looked stylish - AND appropriate for cold weather!
