I was recently invited to attend a National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, but I have no idea what that is. I was wondering if anyone here has been there or knows something about it, and could tell me whether or not it would be worthwhile to go there. Any comments are appreciated. Thank you!

Are you looking to go to it to boost your resume? If yes, then don't go.

If you want to learn more about medicine, the lifestyle of a doctor, and how to become a doctor (and you have the money) then it's worth it. I went last summer and we got to see and touch cadavers and talk to a bunch of doctors and medical students about their experiences. For me, it was worth it.

I'm going this year and I'm very excited! I'll be attending Session 1 at Boston. I was more interested in attending this program because none of my relatives are medical doctors and I am pretty set on being a doctor but I wanted to experience this whole ordeal for myself.

Hey, that's great to hear that others were invited to the program as well. I got a letter today and at first it seemed like a gimic but I guess it's for real then. I was going to call to find out more about it. It said that I was nominated through collegeboard but I don't have any sat scores posted on there, I think I just said that I'm interested in pre-med and that I have a 3.5 gpa. Also, how much is it going to cost because it said "important factors like finances" etc. Is this program worth it? It sounds really cool to me!

I think the price is on the website. There's also a section on the website for scholarships (which are only need-bases) and fundraising.

I haven't gone yet (I'm going this summer to Boston Session 3), but I did a lot of research before deciding to attend. Basically, I think what runforfun said really sums it up. Don't go because you think it will look good to college, because there are so many more selective programs that can do that. Go because you are genuinely interested in medicine and want to have a great summer experience.

PM me, anyone, if you have any questions!

I went to NYLF in... 2001, maybe? It was a great experience for me because until that point, I hadn't had much exposure to medicine as a profession or medical school. When my mum came to pick up up after it was over, I got in the car and told her that I wanted to be a doctor.

I'm going to G-Town this summer for NYLF. I'm going because I'm honestly interested in medicine. I'm looking forward to it and not going to pad my application, but to enjoy the forum and learn about the field.

im going as well also!
im signed up for the july session in san francisco. ive never been to california period, and would like to learn more about medicine (other than the generalizations) and thin it will be a good exprience. and plus, i get to do it in sunny california so even if it does suck, at least i'll have set foot in the place! :)

So who's going to the third session in Boston? I'm so excited! And I know Boston Session 1's last day was yesterday, so does anyone who was there have any tips or advice?

man im going to boston second session and im just like O_O. i dont know what to expect =.,=
