NYT/Today Show 2-16-11

Video (Today Show) and Article (New York Times) "Snapshot of One College's Admission Process" College Admissions Advice - The Choice Blog - NYTimes.com

This could just be me, but I thought it was pretty shallow and general and didn’t offer a whole lot of insight into the process.

Agreed. Nothing was said that I didn’t already know.

I posted this on the Admissions forum and a number of people said it was really interesting! So, I guess it depends on how much knowledge you come to the process with.

Also, the Today Show edited down the interview. The NYT link takes you to an extended interview with Seth Allen, which still might not tell you more than you already knew, but does give more insight into the process.

My S is currently at Grinnell and I keep imagining what it was like when his file came up on that screen! Even though the process was pretty much what I expected, it still was interesting to actually see it “in the flesh.” It made it much more of a reality, that yes, all that effort put into school and application really got a personal look – and that a group of people were sitting around a table talking about my son. I want to know what they were saying about him!! :-)

I liked it. I didn’t learn a lot, but it was framed nicely. I’m going to tell my sophomore son to watch it as he’s started to receive tons of mails from schools.
