NYU alum discussing school/admissions

I've been waitlisted, and definitly plan on staying on the list. They say that 15% of it got in last year, and while I understand my chances are slim, is there anything I can do to up my chances? I was thinking a letter from me and an additional letter of recomendation might help, or else, I know several people who will be turning NYU down for the Ivy League next week. Would mentioning my name help, or just hurt? What would you suggest doing? I've recieved a few more awards since I applied, so I definitly plan on telling them about those. Any help would be appreciated

Blech,

I would say an extra recc. letter is a good idea. Letting them know of you latest awards or grades if steller is also helpful.

You also ask:
"I know several people who will be turning NYU down for the Ivy League next week. Would mentioning my name help, or just hurt?"

I cannot possibly see this helping and it might even hurt. These people hold ZERO sway with NYU.

Hi. I have a really really quick question.

Traditional dorms vs apt-style dorms? I know there are other threads about this, but I didn't find them very helpful...

Thanks!

jwblue,
just wanna say thanks for replying to my posts last year. i was just accepted to NYU, but i'm an international student so my main problem now is financing my studies, especially since most loans need a US co-signer. are you aware of any scholarships or loans outside of the ones provided on the NYU page? thanks again!

yeah, are the apartment style dorms really THAT much less friendly/social like everyone says?

jwblue, did you do an MBA at Stern? Can you tell me how many classes/credits you must take to get a certain major, say Economics, at Stern undergrad. Also, isn't Econ a CAS major....is it the exact same program for that particular major? Thanks.

jwblue,
Hi I was wondering if you anything about transfering to NYU. I'm a college freshman, and I want to transfer in Fall 2006.
SAT: 1210
College GPA: 3.4
HS GPA: 3.4 ish
Awards: who's who among high school students
NAtional Honors society scholar
Jobs: babysit, a past internship
Activities: community service, newspaper, yearbook, mag..and more
In your honest opinion...what do you think are my chances of getting in transfer?
Or should I apply sophomore year to get a better chance?
Thanks

jwblue, u mentioned that u worked in the adcom office. i am a freshmen for fall 2006 and i was wondering about the opportunities to work there. some questions i have are:

-how hard is it to get the job?
-how much do u get paid?
-wut kinds of jobs are involved?
-is it worth it?

Thnks. btw, you can still work in I-bank, even though ur major is philos. and minor in hist.?

wow. really brought up an old thread eh?

anyways... jwblue, how much emphasis is placed on high school in the transfer process? is a 3.5-3.67 college gpa a decent range to be in for stern? i did not take any ap's but graduated high school a year early and have 39 credits. will that help at all? does being motivated enough to teach yourself precal in order to take calc in time for the application impress them?

Are minorities given an advantage in Stern admissions? I have everything but the SAT scores.

Dear jwblue,

I am an international student. And I want to apply NYU stern Business School. I've just received my SATII score report, MATHII 750 (percentile 72); Chemistry 700 (percentile 69).

But I don't know whether it is enough to apply NYU or not. I don't study in America, so could you tell me should I take those subject tests again to get a better score?

Thanks for your time!
