Does anyone know of any kids admitted with high SAT's, and low GPA's. I know the reverse is sometimes true, especially with a kid that Tisch thinks is talented. However, I applied to Film and Television Production and my GPA is crap while my SAT is more than adaquete. What's the lowest GPA someone knows of an admitted student?

SAT - 1550 (800 Math, 750 Verbal)
ACT - 32...could have studied more for that one :-(
GPA - 3.25 W/2.95UW (I know, pitiful) Also, senior year first semester, and I made sure to emphasize this in the additional comments section, was a 4.2W/3.8UW
Involvement - Debate Captain 3 years, Ranked 3rd in the State of Kansas
Debate, State Champion in Debate with 27 Win - 0 Loss record (If they received that update letter), Head of GSA, Head of Graphic Design Firm, Co-Owner of online resale business, diversity council, student council, etc.
Rec.'s - Haven't read them. Ahh, honesty.
Essay - I liked it, but that's oh so subjective. Wouldn't you say?
Portfolio I liked a lot, and had a great presentation of 10 paintings/digital art

check this out: 3.0 or 85 ...1040 on my SAT. But I had a whole lot of finincial troubles, so I had to apply w/ HEOP and that's how I got into NYU CAS

Yeah...I don't really have any special circumstances. At least none that are visible on my NYU app. that would explain why my GPA was so low freshman-junior year.
Anybody else?

Oh, and on a side-note, isn't a 3.0 equivalent to an 80%? Perhaps that just differs from school to school.

If you applied to Tisch, then it's really your portfolio that'll make the decision, I think. I was accepted ED into Music Composition as Steinhardt; My GPA was 3.29 and my SAT was 1420.

Like you my GPA wasn't outstanding, but it was really my portfolio that pushed me in.

This all obviously doesn't make me a shoe-in, but I thank you both in helping to ease a worried mind. My eyes flamed up bright red after being rejected by UCLA and UCSB (even though neither tops my list of choices, and neither were apps I felt as good about as NYU). However, they've mostly returned to their normal color. Stress can reak havok on the body. These couple of weeks suck.

Well.....
In 8th grade there were two deaths in my immediate family. So that contributed. But then again, my grades were crap before that too. Mostly, I guess I just didn't realize the consequences of my actions. I had that whole "I'm above homework" attitude. In fact, if you look back overy my highschool career and pull up the individual grades you'll notice that I pretty much aced all my finals, and did fine on most tests, with a few exceptions here and there. So I figured, if I did fine on that stuff, why bother with working hours at home. Come senior year, my immediate thought was oh crap, there's that college thing. So I whipped up some better grades, and prayed that it would show colleges that I am capable. Also, come senior year, teachers give less points for stupid daily work, and AP classess are more like college classes. I'm not necessarily lazy, I just assigned my own priorities. Turns out, that's ill advised...

Yes and no. In the additional comments section I wrote a letter of sorts. I didn't so much explain, as apologize and try to explain that it's solely a problem of the past. I really didn't wanna play the death card; it just grosses me out. And so I first mentioned that I knew I wasn't the perfect candidate, and then said that I have changed, and that it would not be a problem. This all of course done in a manner that was much nicer than anything I've said here. Just a couple paragraphs basically asking for a pardon from the NYU Sherrif.
