Hey guys,
I was just wondering how I could participate in NYU varsity women's soccer. Are they really as bad as people say? (which is good-more playing time!) Do they care if I didn't get recruited, or can I just walk on? I'm a junior in high school right now, so it's too late to get recruited...Should I go talk to the coach? Do they care if I just show up at the tryouts?
Thanks so much!

I’d wait until you get into the school first, since you aren’t being recruited out of HS. They DO have tryouts, but I would imagine space would dictate how many spots are open for new people.

Most D3 (NYU is a D3) recruiting is initiated by the prospective student … I would suggest you proactively contact the NYU coach (there likely is some form of contact link on the team or coach’s web page) … her/his response will quickly let you know if you are a candidate to be recruited or if walking on is a resaonable option. Good luck!

Yea it’s not like D1 where the coaches come to your HS and check you out. D3 sports aren’t all that competitive. You could walk on, or fill out a recruit questionnaire on the athletic website.

Thank you guys for all your responses! they’re all very helpful I will try to get in touch with the coach

[New York University - Women’s Soccer Recruit Questionnaire](Women's Soccer Recruit Questionnaire - NYU Athletics)

thats the recruit questionnaire for womens soccer. just fill it out and send it in.

i filled one out in the summer of senior year and they saw me play in disney in december… in the end i got “recruited”

the majority of sports at nyu, including soccer are diii but its always better to go in as a “recruit” than a walk-on. Because we’re a fall sport, we get to move in around 2 weeks early and i believe have a slight priority for class times as they try to avoid class and practice conflictions… plus you get free stuff basically, its not too late to get recruited…
as a player, i was a late bloomer and got recruited by several D1 colleges even when i began “recruiting myself” summer before senior year. ultimately, school comes first so NYU it was <3 anyways, good luck!

oh and remember… Grades are the most important thing in your soccer resume… even D1 coaches check to see if you qualify gradewise before they recruit you. lets put it this way, if an amazing player has ehhh grades while a decent but not amazing player has great grades, you will have a better chance to get recruited bc lets admit it, most of us aren’t gonna play sports professionally. Always remember, the quality of the school always comes first.
