Can anyone tell me what the average financial aid for international students at NYU is? And if there have ever been any full rides?
I’m very concerned because i read on an article that NYU gave out 780k in scholarship to international students, and that’s a paltry amount, barely enough to cover the costs of 11 students (if given a full ride).
I was accepted at NYU RD and was given an invitation to their presidential honors scholars program, which indicates that I’m in the top 10% of their entering class.
I’m an international student and have also been accepted through RD, but they haven’t given me any details on financial aid yet (it still says “award access not available” but I’ll be contacting them the next working day).
The cost for NYU will be astronomical for me, since my country’s dollar is so low compared to the US
Edit: My dad is currently unemployed and is in >200k usd debt. So were currently making <20k a year for a family of 8 (were pretty impoverished and basically homeless atm). Additionally, I have indicated all of this in my CSS profile and PJ documentation. My financial aid status is also “award access not available”, however when i contacted the FA office, the lady told me that the office hadnt received my CSS profile. she later found that the CSS profile had been received but not yet processed and told me she would forward it to NYU FA. All of this happened after I had been admitted btw.
I’ve honestly never seen an international student get a full ride to NYU. It’s definitely a known fact that NYU is awful with financial aid, especially with international students, as it does not guarantee to meet demonstrated need. While you may get some scholarships to NYU, a full ride is pretty rare. Also, can you afford the travel expenses to and from new york city? NYC is also very expensive to live in, and as an international student, you will not be allowed to work in the US. Are you able to afford to live in NYC, even if you are lucky enough to get a full ride?
@koreanstudent I can see from your profile that you yourself are a newly admitted student to NYU, yet you keep answering controversial questions like you’re an adcom. This is exactly why college confidential has such a bad rep, please stop.
No offense, but if you wanted advice from an adcom, you could’ve just emailed NYU. Most of the people here are students and parents, not adcoms. And since you’ve gone through my profile, I assume you know I’m an international student as well. I myself have done extensive research on the issue of funding an education in the US as an international student since I began high school, and I’m not sure what about my answer was “controversial.” It’s true that international students are legally not allowed to work in the US, barring special circumstances after your first year. It’s true that NYU is need aware for international students, and it is true that international students rarely get full rides to any US college. It’s also true that a lot of people on this website will tell you that NYU is not known to be generous with aid.
Update: I recieved a 25k CAS scholarship with a 1360 SAT score, so it is possible.
