NYU CAS -Morse Academic Plan

By having a 4 or 5 on the AP Stats test, does this fulfill my Quantitative Reasoning portion of the M.A.P or do I still need to take more math courses at NYU?

high_jumper,

It looks like with an AP Stats exam score of 4 or 5, you would have fulfilled the Quantitative Reasoning course that is part of MAP requirements.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDIT AND THE MORSE ACADEMIC PLAN

AP Examination Grade
MAP Requirement Satisfied
Biology 4, 5 Natural Science I and II
Chemistry 4, 5 Natural Science I and II
Environmental Science 4, 5 Natural Science I
Mathematics AB 4, 5 Quantitative Reasoning
Mathematics BC 4, 5 Quantitative Reasoning
Physics B 4, 5 Natural Science I and II
Physics C—Mech. and Physics C—E&M 4, 5 Natural Science I and II
Physics C—Mech. 4, 5 Natural Science I
Physics C—E&M 4, 5 Natural Science I
Statistics 4, 5 Quantitative Reasoning

The above is from this link:

http://cas.nyu.edu/object/bulletin1012.ug.admission#APCREDIT

I am fairly certain that is it. S fulfilled the Quantitative Reasoning class with his AP Calc AB exam score and I believe he told me he is done with math unless he wants to take it for an elective.

If an AP has no course equivalent, like English Literature with a score of 4 or 5, and but is worth 4 points, does it mean that to graduate from NYU, you will now only need 124 points, as 4 points out of the required 128 to graduate would be effectively earned through the AP credit?

So if an incoming student has gor 4 or 5 in say 7 APs, he could effectively transfer 28 points from his APs and so will only need 100 points by taking classes at NYU?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but am just trying to understand these AP equivalency and NYU course equivalency issues.

It is not a dumb question as it takes awhile to figure out which AP exam scores get credit and what kind of credit.

1) Yes, the 4 credits for AP English Lit exam score of 4 or 5 would mean you have taken an “elective” course and it does reduce the total number of credits you have to take at NYU to 124.

2) You can receive a maximum of 32 AP (or other college?) credits towards the NYU degree requirement of 128 credits to graduate from NYU CAS. Just make sure the 7 APs cited as an example are all accepted for NYU course equivalents or as elective credits. For instance, my son got a 5 in the AP English Language Exam and that particular exam is not accepted at all at NYU.

Evolving, thanks for your helpful reply.

In the link you provided, for “ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDIT AND THE MORSE ACADEMIC PLAN”, AP Art History is not listed at all

However, if one goes to the “ADVANCED PLACEMENT EQUIVALENCIES” list at [NYU > CAS > Bulletin 2010 - 2012 > Admission](http://cas.nyu.edu/object/bulletin1012.ug.admission#APCREDIT)

one finds that a 4 or 5 in AP Art History is equivalent to ARTH-UA 1
course, and that course is an approved departmental course (listed as “ARTH-UA 1 History of Western Art I”) for Expressive Culture. i.e if a student takes this course, that will fulfill the Expressive Culture requirement of MAP, but if the student has a 4 or 5 score in AP Art History, that is considered as equivalent to this course

So why is AP Art History not listed on the MAP site under “ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDIT AND THE MORSE ACADEMIC PLAN”?

Am I missing something here, or is my logic that a 4 or 5 in AP Art History gives you an exemption from taking the Expressive Culture part of MAP correct?

I’ve basically figured out the deal with the NYU CAS AP credit. NYU accepts every type of AP credit except for:

English Language

Human Geography

Music Theory

Studio Art

NYU should have put this one sentence on the website SingaporeDon listed above instead of putting people through all this angst figuring out what credit they get.

SingaporeDon, Sorry I have been out of commission for awhile. So a delayed response to your question from Post #5.

Take a look at this link. It is more comprehensive and indicates that “Expressive Cultures” and “Societies and the Social Sciences” MAP requirements can be fulfilled with a number of options.

Oops, here is the link. DK what happened the first time:
