So, NYUmom told me that apparently those who didn't apply as freshman can apply for transfer to NYU for spring.

(P.S. If rejected for spring, do I have to wait a full year...? Or can I apply again in the summer?)

H.S. GPA: 4.2

I had a 4.6 until the second semester of senior year, where I got a couple B's and my first C (in an AP class.) I don't know how much this will destroy my app.

SATI: 740, 720, 700
SATII: 650 MathII, 670 US History

AP test scores: 5 APUSH, 5 Calc AB AP

In high school, got into regionals and all state for trumpet, did choir, 100 hours of service, etc.

College!

Honors Colloqium
Calculus II Honors
English 1 Honors
Chemistry I
Chem I Lab
Choir

Current gpa (if midterms were sent out, though I'm not sure NYU gets to see halfway grades): 3.75

Honors college
Done about 20 hours of community service at the Children's Clinic here at the University of Arizona.

I would be applying to CAS.

What are my chances? I don't want to risk being rejected, because it's possible they won't let me apply for fall transfer then. NYU mom, do you know anything about this?

Unfortunately, you cant apply to NYU for spring transfer as a freshman. I called them about a month ago with the same question, and they told me that they make freshmen go through a full year of actual college, regardless of whether you have 30 credits or not.

zipdrivekid67890,
I have two kids who have been/are at NYU - one a recent grad and the other one is an undergrad, and both of them have had roommates/friends/acquaintances who made the transfer to NYU in the Spring semester (January) of their freshman year. These were students who either never applied to NYU for their freshsman year, or were students who did apply for their freshman year, were accepted, but chose not to attend at that time. They were not applicants who originally applied to NYU for freshman year and were rejected. Those applicants (the ones who are rejected) are required to wait an entire academic year before re-applying, which means that they can apply during their freshman year (the application is due in the Spring) for sophomore year at NYU. That is NYU's policy. Also, my kids have seen the reverse happen with some students in that they leave NYU in their freshman year (after the Fall semester) to matriculate in the Spring semester (January) as a student at another college/university. Perhaps it might depend on the specific program/school at NYU that the student is applying to - maybe some of them are more flexible than others and have different requirements/policies. I would suggest researching the possibility further by getting in touch with the office of the Dean of Student Affairs in the specific program/school to answer any specific questions about application dates/deadlines/requirements, etc.

im a senior in HS n i got in 2 Stony Brook Uni…i have a GPa of 3.9 SAt score of 1640 n im fairly good in the area of extrcurriculam activities…but im think if transferring 2 NYU cuz i wanna aim higher…is it a gud idea n if yes wht are the requirements?..do i have 2 retake my SAts?

You can’t apply to NYU’s Stern, Tisch, or Steinhardt schools as a freshman sprig transfer. I know Tisch and certain Steinhardt music programs require an audition so they won’t let you try tilll the fall.

The “We Transferred to NYU” blog frequently mentions that the school cares about numbers above all else. Check out their blog to compare yourself to the “chance” posts the blog has.
