I applied to tischs clive davis recorded music program and I have been wondering if getting an interview is a good or bad sign? If anyone has any information on getting an interview from the department at all please let me know thank you.

In reviewing the admission requirement parameters here [UG Rec Music Portfolio: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU](http://clivedavisdept.tisch.nyu.edu/object/ugrmusicportfolio.html), it would not surprise me that an interview might well be part of the admissions process. My guess is that the interview is only granted to applicants that are reasonable contenders for admission.

This is my take based on experience with other music programs (although my experience leans to performance, composition, and music education).

This thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1077306-composition-interviews.html?highlight=interview from the [Music Major - College Confidential](Music Major - College Confidential Forums)
has a series of links detailing the types of questions asked of performance, comp, and ed students, and I’d imagine that similar questions (influences, background, what drives you, and the impression of how/if you will mesh with the program/faculty) will have influence on your being admitted.

You might also want to try the music major or NYU forums [New York University - College Confidential](New York University - College Confidential Forums)

Good luck.

Recorded Music at Tisch does not require an interview. I’ve applied as well and they asked all applicants (as far as I know) for Skype information to do a video chat interview. They said that interview/lack of interview does not automatically determine admittance/denial; rather, they will only try to interview you if they have questions regarding your portfolio. I don’t know much about live interviews for NYU, but I don’t really think it’ll affect your admission to the program itself unless it’s with one of the ReMu faculty members.

Did they ask you to do the interview after the initial email?

No, I entered my information where they said to… I made it clear that the week they were doing the Skype interviews I would have to use mobile Skype during rehearsal dinner breaks because I’m in a show. They said to add them on Skype and I did, but my phone is sometimes wonky so I don’t really know if they tried to contact me or not. =/

Im sorry that must be stressful ://

Haha yeah. The show’s going well though. I was in town & toured NYU recently, so hopefully from that they’ll see my continued interest and assume that technology was at fault if they did try to contact me.

Also, I have a question for you all if you’re willing to help me out…

I’d like to to get in touch with a part-time ReMu faculty member cause I’m a huge fan of his work and would love to take his class if I was accepted into the program. The website is pretty clear about the fact that “all questions you may have can be answered by the admissions counselors” etc, meaning they don’t want us to bug the faculty… Should I just wait and not contact him since I already briefly mentioned one of his works in my portfolio essay?
