NYU Common Data Set

Why is their information in their CDS so different from what they provide on their admissions page?

http://www.nyu.edu/ir/cds/cds0405/cdsc.php

For example, the CDS says 63% were in the top 10%, while on their website it says 71%. Also the SAT range from the CDS is 1220-1410 whereas their admissions page says it's 1310-1440 or some such.

Which is correct?

Here is the admissions page I was talking about:
http://admissions.nyu.edu/fast_facts/

It's due to the discrepancy between the stats of enrolled and admitted students.

The common data set only looks at **enrolled **students.

I was under the impression the admissions page was also referring to enrolled students, as it says it's for the Class of 2009...

Looks to me (from the information you provided) that a lot of the top admits for NYU go to other schools, which is why the top 10% of HS class and SAT 25% range drop (from admitted -> enrolled). That's likely, as I know quite a few students who apply to Ivies and such (not the majority, but a sizable minority) apply to NYU as a safety.

Well I just noticed on the admissions page it says:
Academic Statistics (Four-year Programs)

GSP isn't a four year program, and GSP probably brings down averages quite a bit.

Nope.

Remember that NYU admitted over 12,000 students. The stats on the admissions page is ususally based on the admitted pool of students. Remember every one who is admitted does not attend.

The enrollment management people already know this, so they state we need to admit X # of students to yeild a class of Y # of students.

So if you are trying to gauge where you fall , look at the admissions page because it is representative of the entire applicant pool.

Well I guess that would make sense. A lot of Ivy applicants I know are using NYU as their safety (as magus said).
