*****NYU Early Decision 2 Class of 2020 Discussion*****

ED1 just got their decisions agh :///

Does anyone know if it’s harder to get in ED2 than it is for ED1?

@scoobysnacks56 I believe it’s marginally harder. Marginally. Don’t worry about it. Either way, there’s nothing you can do about it now.

Chance me for CAS?

Gender/Race: male/white
GPA W: 4.0
SAT I: 2000
SAT II: I’ve taken literature, US history, and world history. Waiting on results.
Extracurriculars: Varsity Sports, worked for gov. official for summer months, special olympics, relay for life, multiple clubs in school, summer camp counselor, student leadership conference for the northeast. I don’t have all my community service hours together yet, but I’d guess I have 130-150 or so.
Reccomendations: Two great letters (one from a teacher and another from gov. official) and a decent one from another teacher.
Hook: I’m a first generation college student/high school grad, I lived abroad in an economically poor location for almost 10 years. I’m also a recruited athlete, I don’t think that plays a huge role but it’s something.

I know I’m not the most qualified guy, certainly on this board, but I’m hoping for some feedback. I’m from a family of immigrants so I don’t have much experience with the college process.

Thanks!

Hey everyone! I wish you all the best of luck in successfully finishing the grueling college application process!
If you don’t mind, can you please chance me for Stern? I have already applied ED2.

•White male attending an not-so-competative public school

•GPA (100 pt. scale): 95.69 unweighted; 100.7 weighted (I believe this is a 4.0?)

•2010 SAT score (650 CR, 670 Math, 690 Writing) (NOTE: I will NOT be sending my SAT scores)
•31 ACT (31 math, 34 english, 29 reading, 30 science. Average=31.25… took the December test to hopefully get a 32)

•Course rigor: 7 AP classes total (APUSH, AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP Economics (micro/macro in same year), AP Physics B, AP language and composition, AP world history (9th & 10th grade)); All other classes are Honors classes; “wind ensemble” (my school’s most advanced band).

•extracurriculars: President of English Honor society/English Club, treasurer of Business Honor Society, advanced outside-of-school Orchestra member (play at well-known stages such as Carnegie Hall), volleyball team, outside-of-school volleyball club (play around the nation at national tournaments). Interned at 2 companies throughout high school

•Chief Executive Officer of my school’s Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) Firm

•Counselor Letter of Rec: Generic
•Teacher Letters of Rec: Great
•I am sending a letter of rec from the CEO of a well-established, publicly traded company (one of my internship employers)
•Intended major: Finance
•I will NOT be applying for financial aid
•I put in a lot of thought and work into both my “Why NYU” and Common App essays. I’d like to think they are at the very least average. I hope NYU agrees with me too!

Thanks everyone, and good luck!

You seem to be a pretty well rounded student, and an especially good candidate to Stern. I don’t think you even need to ED to be frank.

^ECs are unique and rec from CEO will be a great factor; hopefully it will mitigate your school’s reputation and your slightly low standardized test scores

@OttoVanBismark16 Your ECs are good, and your test scores are average. I think if you write unique and good essays you’ll have a great chance of getting in!

@Libero331884 I think you have a really good shot at Stern! If you can raise that ACT score by 1 point, your all set. If not, I still think you have a really good chance of acceptance!

Hope I helped!

Hey guys! How many of you have submitted your application thus far?

honestly you could go for stern if you’d like

@scoobysnacks56 I’ve submitted all my credentials and my app already, just waiting for my December SAT scores so I can submit them as well.

@NYUDreamer1 Thank you! I plan to major in Biology, but I might change. What are you planning to major in?

Hey guys so I was wondering if I should wait till regular Decision to apply for Stern or CAS for economics
Here are my stats:
3.8 GPA
29/521 class rank
1700 SAT score ( low I know)
10 AP classes in total
Virtually all pre-ap classes beforehand
5 on US History
5 on Psychology
4 on English Lang
(A few more that I won’t send)
Extracurriculars:
Marching and concert band for 3 years
(2 time state soloist in Texas)
National Honor Society
Volunteering at Church
Leadership conference For church
Tutoring during advisory periods
Awards:
AP Scholar with honors
Minor school awards
Let me know what you guys think

@Hlin98 I’m thinking about a double major in Journalism and English, but then again, I might change as well!
I’m so nervous already guys, and there’s still two months to go! I don’t think I’ll be able to handle it!

@Wscott23 Your GPA and class rank are impressive, and so is your course load! I guess if you have good recs and great essays, you have a chance at CAS. Stern is more tricky because of your SAT score. Will you be taking it again? And have you taken any SAT Subject Tests or the ACT?

@Wscott23 TBH, and take this with a grain of salt. But I would do Stern as my main choice and LSP as my backup. Just because I would want to get in to the school at any cost. You can try an internal transfer later.

Do any of you guys know the acceptance rate for Stern?

@SnapApp I believe it’s around 15%. Don’t quote me on that though.

@SnapApp I believe it’s around 15%. Don’t quote me on that though.

First semester for me ends on January 22nd. So NYU wouldn’t get my first semester grades until probably January 28th - February 1st. Do ED2 decisions get released on February 15th or could it be earlier? Would this be enough time for them to properly review my application with my first semester grades?

Should I submit my 2 on AP Physics? Reason not to submit it: crap score. Reason to submit it: so they don’t assume I got a 1.
