NYU & EC's

I am currently a sophomore in high school, and quite frankly, weirdly obsessed with getting into NYU for journalism. I am fairly confident at my current progression through high school; good grades, good relationships with teachers, good PSAT etc etc, but I am quite worried about my EC's. I feel that they are horrible! Will someone please shed a little light onto my situation =)

so, this is my project EC plan throughout high school (I have a plan for EVERYTHING let me tell you!)

School Paper (10-12)
Editor-in-Chief (11-12)<---i have already been informed of this =D
Photography (9-12)<--already won awards, taken classes, etc, will have a portfolio maybe for additional information?
BBYO (10-12)<--youth group
Soccer Sweeties (10-12)<--sort like soccer cheerleaders...only we don't cheer....
Volunteer (9-12) atleast 300 hours...probably more for specific organizations
Amabassador (11)-tentative, application process
Heritage Panel (11-12)<--just established this year, but i moved to this school after they had started
Literary Mag (11-12)...im actually not sure if we have one of these...but if we don't...i shall start it!
NHS (11-12)...im hoping....

anyways...that is my projected plan...I feel like I don't have enough leadership positions. Hopefully I will win some journalism awards, and I am also planning on entering essay contests etc etc. Please give me some advice on ways to improve maybe, or if you think I am just being SILLY!

[oh, the plan is that I am going to apply ED...as you can see, my goal is to get into NYU no matter what!!]

I know...I'm crazy....

Please excuse my spelling and grammar errors...it's late, what can I say?

i think it's good so far considering it's your sophomore year. it would help ALOT to have lots of leadership stuff. i.e. be a NHS officer, run for class officer, get into science nhs, math nhs, etc. and i mean, since you want to focus on journalism, if you do alot of inschool as well as outside of school journalism related activities (esp with alot of involvement).. that'd help also. ANd.... starting clubs early in high school (and actually keeping up with it) is a great idea! overall... try to be in as many clubs/activities as you possibly can. no matter how busy your schedule may become, deal with it, and in the end it'll pay off alot. (ps. awards + contests = good)

Be careful not to overextend yourself. Colleges like quality, not quantity. Since you are passionate about journalism, continue developing your interests in that area. I think your involvement in newspaper and photography is is great start because you clearly enjoy those activities (which is why you will succeed there). Essay contests and a literary mag both sound good too because they tie into your interests. If you still have time and energy to devote to other ECs, go for it, but take care not to burn yourself out.

^^ ditto what s/he said
