Hi, I am a currently a HS senior and am going to ED in round 2 to NYU (arts and sciences).
My SAT score is a 1970, my ACT score is a 27 (28 superscored). I’ve done well on the ACT essays, getting 9,10,11 as scores. I am waiting on my ACT score from this month, it should be somewhat better than the last ones.
MY GPA is a 94.0625 and my rank is 92 out of 480 students, but my GPA should increase in the next one month.
SAT 2s: Literature 640, Math 2 550 (i do not think i will be sending this one, or i might re-take it), US History 630.
I have am set on extra-curriculars, letters of recommendations, leadership, community service, experiences, honors/awards, and I even began my own business.
All i have left is a stellar essay.
I am from a competitive high school in NJ and I really want to go to NYU. I was wondering if my chances are good? and what exactly NYU would look for in my essay given my profile (Asian-American above average student, along with all the stats listed above.) I was also wondering if I could get in touch with any current NYU student to ask what exactly they wrote in their essays…
I was going in as an economics major (in regular NYU, not Stern) , is this department extremely competitive? is there any less competitive major?
I am going to ED in round 2, so I think the acceptance rate it slightly better. But what I am more nervous for is how to win the admissions committee with my essay, given it’s the last determining factor.
My essay essentially is on how i am looking to gain a rich education at NYU, how the location, New York City, is so integral to my life and my goals, what subjects I am interested in and how i look to breed that curiosity, putting myself in a global environment to challenge myself, interact with others from aroudn the globe to gain perspective and learn new things, the role traveling has had on my life which is why I look at NYU as a place I can directly fuel my intellectual curiosity, study abroad, etc. etc.
Any suggestions, advice, constructive criticism, etc. is all welcomed
Thank you!
