i only got 14K a year :’(
ACCEPTED… CAS PRE-MED!!! SO HAPPY!!!
For future applicants, here is what I’ll tell you:
The housing/FA theories are a bunch of BS. I did not get any of the changes and I got in.
Here are my stats:
White male
GPA: 3.46 UW 3.84W (yes! you can get in without a 4.0 or higher GPA!!!)
ACT: 31 (No, you do not need a 33+ or 1500+ to get in!!!)
ECs
- Swimming
- 4 political campaigns (one per year)
- Co-President of HS Republican club
- Interact club
- Summer job
(No, you do not need a million ECs to get in!!!, quality over quantity!!!)
Awards/recognitions: None!
And my essays were not great.
I had some decent recommendations.
Accepted into CAS for physics.
Im trying to tell you guys that you DO NOT need a 36 ACT/1600 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, president of 400 clubs and captain of 3 sports to get in!!!

Tisch drama students who got $$…need or merit??
@EngineerGeek Congratulations!!! Just curious, how good is Tandon’s financial aid? I’ve tried looking but couldn’t find anything.
Did anyone here get accepted/deferred from Gallatin? Could you post your stats?
@nrvsabtcllg
I was accepted into Gallatin 2021! I’m really excited. how did things go for you?
stats:
31 on ACT
Flat As Senior Fall
took 7 APs
Strong ECs
Also, for future applicants …please don’t buy into the “FA change” nonsense - I was accepted and never received a single “FA change” and spent the week before checking Albert, almost hourly, stressing about an “FA change.”
its meh I got a 15,000 Tandon Scholarship. Im doing a work-study. I just need to figure out the rest. I am applying to many scholarships though.
Hey guys. Before I was rejected from NYU, I scrolled through the 2020 thread and thought, “Hey. I wish there were more stats from NYU rejects here.” Well, I got rejected, so I’m back here at the 2021 thread for the last time in order to give back to the future NYU applicants (including myself when I apply as a transfer next year)
Decision: Rejected (1. CAS Chem, 2. Gallatin)
SAT: 1300 (700E, 600M)
ACT: 27, did not submit
GPA: 93/100
ECs: Running (half marathons to 5ks, usually top 3 age group…my school didn’t have a track or xc team), Gay-Straight Alliance, Big Sib/Lil Sib, Anti Sexual Harassment Club, Bike Club, High School XC Summer Program
Common App Essay: 8/10 Everyone said it was amazing, but in retrospect I might now have put enough life into it
Why NYU Essay: 7/10 It was unique, but probably not amazing
Counselor Rec: 10/10 We have a great relationship
Teacher Rec 1: 10/10 NYU Professor, I was at the top of the class, so I’m assuming it was very good
Teacher Rec 2: 6/10 11 Grade History Teacher…He offered to write it but he’s sort of lazy and handed it in late…probably wasn’t great
I attend a small public high in NYC
Race: White
Gender: Female
Reflection:
I sincerely thought they would accept me because of the NYU class (it was free through my high school, and it was with NYU college students, not hs students). I think that the reason I was rejected was because my math scores were not high enough for chemistry at NYU. Instead, I should have put my major down as an English type of major or undeclared. I also should have made my second choice LSP instead of Gallatin.
FA Change: I got the second wave, the one that said 2018 a few days before the decision. The FA is bullshit, trust me!
Housing Change: I didn’t get this one. I’m pretty sure that it is legit.
I hope this helps someone out there!
Do you guys know if Paul McGhee of NYU is easier to get in than regular NYU?
its meh I got a 15,000 Tandon Scholarship. Im doing a work-study. I just need to figure out the rest. I am applying to many scholarships though. @IMAWIZARD
Hi, I am a currently a HS senior and am going to ED in round 2 to NYU (arts and sciences).
My SAT score is a 1970, my ACT score is a 27 (28 superscored). I’ve done well on the ACT essays, getting 9,10,11 as scores. I am waiting on my ACT score from this month, it should be somewhat better than the last ones.
MY GPA is a 94.0625 and my rank is 92 out of 480 students, but my GPA should increase in the next one month. And including my senior year classes I have 7 APs.
SAT 2s: Literature 640, Math 2 550 (i do not think i will be sending this one, or i might re-take it), US History 630.
I have am set on extra-curriculars, letters of recommendations, leadership, community service, experiences, honors/awards, and I even began my own business.
All i have left is a stellar essay.
I am from a competitive high school in NJ and I really want to go to NYU. I was wondering if my chances are good? and what exactly NYU would look for in my essay given my profile (Asian-American above average female student, along with all the stats listed above.) I was also wondering if I could get in touch with any current NYU student to ask what exactly they wrote in their essays…
I was going in as an economics major (in regular NYU, not Stern) , is this department extremely competitive? is there any less competitive major?
I am going to ED in round 2, so I think the acceptance rate it slightly better. But what I am more nervous for is how to win the admissions committee with my essay, given it’s the last determining factor.
My essay essentially is on how i am looking to gain a rich education at NYU, how the location, New York City, is so integral to my life and my goals, what subjects I am interested in and how i look to breed that curiosity, putting myself in a global environment to challenge myself, interact with others from aroudn the globe to gain perspective and learn new things, the role traveling has had on my life which is why I look at NYU as a place I can directly fuel my intellectual curiosity, study abroad, etc. etc.
Any suggestions, advice, constructive criticism, etc. is all welcomed
Thank you!
Rejected from Stern and CAS Poly Sci as my alternate.
33 ACT (36M 35E 30S 30R)
13 AP classes with 4s and 5s on all of them
3.76 UW GPA and a 4.8 W GPA
750 on Math I, 800 on Math II, 800 on US History
Those are just my numbers if anyone has any questions feel free to message me…
I applied for the BPE program if that means anything to you
Is ED1 more advantageous than ED2 at NYU or is it basically the same? Also do you get lots of financial aid as ED?
@dlee627 It’s the same in every regard. You should apply!
What’s your sat or act scores? Rvp1999.
@perry_101 hey okay, so i applied to NYU CAS and got into LSP! you should definitely put LSP as your second choice because it’s the same as CAS with more options (honestly) and it’s a great program. your ACT scores are looking pretty down, try to get it to 30+ and your gpa looks nice (esp if it’s going to get higher). NYU really takes into account extracurriculars and essays so make those really stand out. other than that, enjoy your senior year! NYU eneded up giving me a really good scholarship so if you show enough interest, they’ll probably give you one too!!
is it easier to get into cas or tandon
