NYU ED1 Discussion Thread

Just wanted to say that I hope all of you have an awesome Thanksgiving.

You too! :)

Just curious about first quarter grades- Will all ED applicants have their 1st quarter grades be considered? It may or may not completely decide my admission, as I went from 0 honors (but still accelerated, as my school has 3 levels. Max GPAs of 4.5), to 2 honors classes (AB calc, but dropped down. average went from 72 to 91 on the exact same material…). My GPA of 5 is a 3.35, but this first quarter was a 3.875 (above average of 5 on my school’s naviance)

I don’t think they look at the first quarter, but rather at the first semester (which is handed in by March 1st) and eventually your final transcript (which is handed in around July or so). But this is just from some quick information gleaned from the NYU website.

Could you link me? I don’t think that first semester grades will be accounted for, as ED decisions come out way before my second quarter ends… My question may have been rather confusing. I’m asking about the effect on my admission

No grades from senior year will have an impact on admission unless the admissions committee is really on the fence about you (if this were the case you probably would know already).

Mid year and final year transcripts are sent after you’re given admission as an ED applicant and are used just to make sure you haven’t completely ignored school after being accepted.

Damn… well that sucks. Hopefully athletic backing is enough then…

If you really want your first quarter grades to be considered as an ED applicant, you can ask your guidance department to send them in for you. If they have not be requested by NYU by now, I would imagine they are not going to be…but there still may be time for these grades to impact an application if they are significant.

Applied to CAS via Early Decision I (I will be completely satisfied with getting LSP’d). I am really worried about my credentials. My GPA was severely affected by multiple family situations that began in 10th grade and persists now, in addition to changing High Schools in 10th grade. I mentioned all of my circumstances to my guidance counselor and I made sure that he emphasized that these circumstances had a significant impact on my GPA. A prediction is much appreciated.

GPA: 3.3/4.0 (UW) 3.5/4.0 (W)
SAT: 1840 Math:590 Reading:590 Writing:690
SAT II: US-710
AP: US-4
Classes currently being taken: AP Macro/Micro Economics, AP Gov/Pol. (which includes the We The People debate team as an EC), AP Psychology, Honors College Calculus, Honors College English, Regular Spanish
Extracurriculars throughout High School: Jazz Band (9th [1st High School’s Advanced Jazz Band], 11th, 12th
We The People Constitutional Debate team (12th)

I also play in a band outside of school that formed during the first quarter of sophmore year. We have recorded a demo and we just released an EP. We have play on a consistent basis (on average, at least once a month) and we have played outside of New York State on numerous occasions.

Recommendations: AP US (now my AP Gov) teacher, Honors English 11 teacher, and Honors Global History teacher 10th.

Every person I have showed my essay and supplements to have said nothing but great things about them.

Once again, a prediction is much appreciated.

Also, if this has any effect, I play drums/percussion. I am also in my school’s concert band.

Mine! It’s the most agitating thing and I auditioned Nov. 6

Anyone else’s standardized box still not checked on Albert? LOL

uskoolfish- My school automatically sends them in, or so I’ve been told. Should I check in at the office to make sure?

@Cliffhanger33
Yeah mine too. I emailed them to double check that they received my IB scores - and they did - but the person said that the box won’t be checked until my “file” has been “fully reviewed” by one of their officers… I don’t know if that means when the box is checked, they have seen my whole application and have decided to reject me or not… Or just the document my ib coordinator sent them… @______@;;

@cliffhanger and banterings

Mine is not checked either. But the reason for that is that my sat 2 scores from October were delayed (still are) and I had to send another score report without the October SAT 2 scores on Nov. 22 (for ED1). I called them, they said it was alright. I asked them if it was still good if it arrives by December 6 (2 weeks from Nov. 22), they still said it was alright. Hopefully I get into ED1 Stern and I’ll be officially done with high school. I’m quite sick of it to be honest. Anyways, do you guys think sending scores that late, November 22, is okay for ED1 at NYU Stern? Anyone else had prior experiences with delayed sat scores?

Yes, it’s okay because SAT2 are not a major part of their application. They will use it for borderline applicants only.

I’m talking about an entire score report- one with 3 SAT I’s and 1 SAT 2 (US History) sent on November 22nd. I hadn’t sent any standardized testing prior to that. Is that still okay?

@ banterings

They said the exact same thing to me. Not sure what they mean by “full review”. They even updated Albert saying that if you have decided to submit an alternate form of test, other than ACT/SAT, it will take loner for them to check it off as complete on Albert.

Does that mean once all three of my boxes are checked, they have already made a decision on me?

@ Noldi.
Not sure, I think it is fine, if they said so. My box hasn’t even been checked, so it’s no different from you.

@cliffhanger33

my standardized box is checked. only my audition/artistic review isn’t checked, even though I already had my audition

what is Albert?
