NYU EDII Class of 2017 Discussion Thread

I wouldn’t submit additional recommendations. Too many recs is definitely detrimental to an application, it makes the admissions staff think you’re trying to cover something up.

One extra probably wouldn’t hurt, but I’ve heard of qualified students being rejected because they’ve submitted a ridiculous amount of recs. One girl from my school submitted 20 letters of recommendation and the admissions officer at the university called my school’s counselor and asked if there was something wrong with the student that they were trying to cover up.

Does anyone know which day they start looking at our applications?

If you have common sense, you wont send twenty letters of rec. I sent two, as well as all my new extra currics I had become involved in after I submitted my app, and I faxed my current term grades to admissions. Do what you want but all I’m saying is I got in with low SAT and low GPA and believe it was because I showed them how bad I wanted it.

@tgese11

how did you send your recommendations? did you tell your admissions counselor that you were sending more and then email them?

To whom did you email the recs to and how many did you send exactly? I’m seriously considering sending two more along with a nicely worded email.

Also does anyone know if mid-year grades weigh in much because I’m currently having the best year of my life grade wise.

yes, they look at midyear grades before they make their decisions and send out their acceptance letters so it will definitely be a factor for EDII and RD applicants. It probably weighs about the same as the rest of your transcript does, although colleges tend to overlook bad grades in freshmen and sophomore year if your grades are on a positive trend and increase substantially junior and senior year.

i had an extra rec letter sent it via post early december. should i call the office to make sure it was received and filed?

Has anyone received a pin or ID thing or anything? I havent !!

@emicar4

Yes, but they’re still processing applications.

Wait a week and if you still haven’t received your Albert login info call the admissions office.

Don’t worry about it, as long as you submitted your application on time you are fine.

hi guys,

I have a question about CSS profile on NYU ED2.
It says that the Priority Deadline was Jan 15th 2013. But I just submitted it- Jan 20th.

Does this mean that I’m not going to be applicable for CSS?

Please answer me x.x

I’m fairly sure you aren’t going to get a FinAid decision in February when most other ED II students get it.

Call the admissions office as soon as possible and explain the situation. They’re the only ones who can do anything about it. I’m not sure about NYU, but some schools let ED students who missed the priority filing deadline file under the regular deadline and receive a financial aid decision in April with Regular Decision students. Again, I’m not sure how NYU’s policies work in this regard, but I get a feeling that this won’t disqualify you for aid, it will just delay your aid decision until April. However, I’m not sure about this at all and I could be completely wrong. You really need to call the admissions office as soon as you can.

Ah! When will they have looked at our applications?!

@tgese11 When you sent your additional documents did you receive some sort of confirmation from NYU?

Hey everyone.

I have a question of my own now.

I applied to the Dramatic Writing program, and sent my portfolio both e-mail and USPS as instructed.

However, no check mark has shown up on Albert next to my portfolio box. I’m assuming they haven’t processed it yet, but it’s been quite a while since I sent the portfolio. I’m starting to become slightly worried.

I never received any sort of confirmation email after sending my portfolio to the NYU e-mail address, only an automatic “Out of Office” notification (I sent it during the NYU Christmas break, right before it was due). The tracking on the portfolio package that I sent in the mail, however, said it was delivered and signed before the deadline.

How long should I wait before contacting the admissions office to ask if they’ve received it or possibly arrange to re-send it if they somehow never received it? Are there any other Tisch students here who have not had their portfolio checked on Albert yet?

Thanks!

Anybody counting down the days? Cause I am. Lol.
T-18 days until happiness or death.

I’m SUPER nervous lol.

Thebigcw I got into dramatic writing in ed1. Mine never changed either! I called and they told me they were still reviewing it and that was like a week before I found out. I took it as a good sign and I think you should to! They’re still looking at it which means they haven’t read it and immediately discarded it. Either that or it’s some flaw in the system for DW and is completely irrelevant but either way they do have it. They would have told you if you didn’t by now. Relax it will all work out in the end!

I start freaking out whenever I think about how close February 15th is

There are a little over 320 seniors at my school, and we are very competitive.
My junior year screwed my GPA over. I had a 3.8 going in, and came out with a 3.56. My rank came in at a whopping 112. My guidance counselor told me I had a better chance of getting into reach schools if I made it to the top 100, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
My highest SAT score was 1610, and my ACT was a 23. I am a horrible test-taker, and I don’t do good under pressure.
I applied EDII because NYU is my absolute first choice school.
I’m not involved in a wide range of activities because my very few hobbies consume my life.
I’ve been dancing for 13 years, and I’ve been acting for four years. I also volunteer by tutoring elementary school kids on weekdays and I chapporone them on field trips around the city.
I wrote my essay about dance. I’m very good in English, too. I’ve only ever took one AP class. I’m an honors student.
I applied to the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in psychology and minoring in dance.
I know February 15th is rapidly approaching, and I tried not to worry so much about this…But I realized it’s only two weeks away, and now I’m freaking out.

@Tereeses we are on the same page and what makes it worst for me I’m going to be in nyc from next week till the 13 and will have to pass by there all the time :(
