@cjeong98 Do you if it’s true that NYU only accepted 1 external transfer to Stern last year?
I am an external stern applicant as well, last year they only accepted two external transfers. It is completely possible to get accepted you just need to be convincing in ur application and have the gpa to support ur arguments. If u look at the 2016 thread u can find the two applicants who got accepted and their stats
@TransferKid97 wow, only two?? I know that Stern does not accept a lot of transfers, but how do you know for sure that there was only two?
I spoke to an admissions officer and that’s what he told me, but then again take it with a grain of salt because apparently they don’t provide concrete information. The reason the number is so low because of internal transfers. They usually accept around 25 internal transfers. I read somewhere though that they can accept as many applicants as they please for any college as long as they have the stats.
@TransferKid97 Are you talking about NYU? ^ Where did you read this?
@NYUhopeful_1198 i believe they’re talking about stern transfers!
Lol yes I am talking about nyu the link is here https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/how-to-apply.html and then read the description under “review process”
^ @transferkid97 yeah, and if it’s applicable to NYU does that include all their schools or just stern?
All the schools bro it says it right there in the link. Also if u looked at the fall 2016 thread and spring transfer thread people were receiving decisions ranging from early on till like may. I honestly believe there is no disadvantage with submitting ur application on April 1st, everyone no matter what school will get an equal opportunity to get admitted, as I said before you just need to prove ur committed and really show them ur a valuable student. Show them you want to make it by doing research on the specific college ur applying to. Make sure u have extracurriculars, and a powerful essay. The most important thing in my opinion based off of what the dean of admissions said on a YouTube video I saw, was the answer u provide for the “why nyu?” section. You can find the video on YouTube.
I think I wrote a decent “Why NYU?” essay. I wrote about the specifics and what I will be able to accomplish at NYU Stern. I just hope that it comes off as genuine to the Admissions Office, and they see that I have potential, but I know, unfortunately, that I have to mentally prepare myself for rejection :((
@TransferKid97 you’re right! I wrote my why NYU essay dedicated to Gallatin…so hope that works. Did you also apply to NYU? If so, which school?
Yea, I applied to Stern only. I did not select another college of study like CAS etc for a second choice. My application including my EC’s were all dedicated to my major finance. I found my passion for finance during my sophomore year and have dedicated all my time to learning as much as possible. I believe finance is my true passion and it would be unreal to study it at stern lol. But you know I am prepared for rejection just like everyone on this thread should be. Dont let this ruin your confidence, instead it should be an example for trying even harder in what you believe in.
For those of you who put down to be considered for other schools within NYU if you aren’t selected for your primary school, check out this blog post by NYU Admission’s Shawn Abbott

@Ipkillz123 oh no… I just read the article you linked and it said that they will not likely consider those people who applied to Stern and put down CAS Economics as an alternative choice. What if I like economics? Do you know why they would not consider me for CAS?
@TransferKid97 @cjeong98 @NYUhopeful_1198 Have you guys applied as rising juniors?
@Kartikeyakatty I’m a rising sophomore
@cjeong98 oh okay. Well good luck!
Yea I’m a rising junior @Kartikeyakatty
@Kartikeyakatty Nup I’m also a rising sophomore.
I’m so nervous for the decision.
