NYU Financial Aid Good or Eh?

Hello CC community,

I wanted some of your opinions on my financial aid for NYU Tandon. I’m in family of 3 that makes approximately 35K a year. My net costs would be like 11K a year and would go down to 8k with work study. (on the side note, is it possible to have an internship and work study at the same time?) Down below are the images of the summary sheets. Do any of you have any tips?

Thank you

I think that’s an amazing award from NYU.

Your links are obscured but I correctly guessed imgur com

That is a wonderful award from NYU – they are meeting your full need. It is heavy on loans & work study, but that is likely the best that NYU offers anyone, and with a STEM/engineering major your earning capacity should be enough so that the loans won’t be a problem long term.

And yes, you can do an internship and/or a second job in addition to work study, but I wouldn’t advise it your first semester. Focus on your studies first – but once you feel comfortable about your ability to keep up with classwork, you might find that you have time that can be devoted to a 2nd job or an internship.

Congratulations – NYU only gives good aid to a very small fraction of its students. Your awards suggests that you were a very strong candidate for admission and should do well.

Could you just cut and paste your award here…it sounds fantastic…but your links are clearly not allowed as they are blocked out.

This is a spectacular scholarship and financial aid package, and at NYU for that matter, which typically skimps on scholarships and financial aid. Do you even have anything else comparable? More important to keep you grades up, and guarantee to continue to receive the Tandon scholarship, than risk loosing it by spending time having a second job.

I would not even do the work study, so you can focus on your studies, but maybe you cannot afford that.

@monaymonay123 How did you get the info on the second screen shot? D17 is also NYU Tandon and we have no pell grants posted which I found very odd.

That is a nice package.

Net price before any loans or work study is $11,267.

$3K in WS, the rest in loans ($5500 plus $2757 PLUS) - zero parent contribution and zero student contribution beyond WS/loans.

But COA includes almost $5K for books, travel and “misc”.

Yes, if you just look at direct costs, it is $63,000 and aid is $56,000.

So net price $7,000

Direct Loans of $5,500 offered and work study of $3,000.

Make sure you try working this summer to have money or books and travel.

Work study is earned once you find a WS job there.

Your parents don’t have to take the parent plus loan if you don’t need it.

Work from now until college starts so that your parents don’t have to take the parent PLUS loan.
