NYU First Year Orientation --> Testing Chem and Bio

Hello!

I will be a first year at NYU this fall and I just finished selecting my schedule for the fall semester. Like many other pre-med students, I have decided to take General Chem 1 and Principles of Biology 1 concurrently. Although I took APs in Biology and Chemistry in high school, I was still nervous about the level of difficulty for those courses and decided to do some research through different forums. I seem to have grasped a pretty good understanding of what the courses are like, but I read something surprising/confusing about the start of the course. On one forum (I forget which, please forgive me!) I recall reading about testing during orientation week for placement into honors or regular level classes. Is this true? If so, would the honors classes be at the same time as regular chem/bio (ie can I keep the same schedule), or will there most likely be a change in my class times/days (that is considering I get placed into honors… If I don’t then it isn’t a huge deal and obviously nothing will change).

Additionally, I read that there were Calculus and Physics questions on the chem placement exam. Does this hold true in your experience? I am skeptical that the placement tests would have calculus-based chemistry as that seems highly advanced… Is this just a false rumor or???

Thanks in advance for all your help. Have a lovely day
