you apply to specific schools, and in some cases, specific programs within the school.

Do you apply to them after you get Ito NYU?

And the emails from CC have returned haha.

@RawrJjong

Anialways put it up. Pretty much, the testing options are extremely flexible. If you’re confused by Anial’s post than I don’t know how much more clear it could get.

@yollie3000

Scroll through the thread, I’ve answered this more in depth. But generally, people tend to get weak FA mostly due to the smaller endowment compared to other private schools. There are people who get a more than generous aid package though so it’s not impossible.

@Lmcaree

As uskoolfish said you apply beforehand during your application to specific schools and sometimes to specific programs. It’s very clear in the application. However, there are no second choices except if you’re offered LSP. Normally, there are no second options.

ITT: people who can’t google or use the search function

In their defense, we were also *****ting our pants and not thinking straight when we were in high school.

Btw lullinatalk, how’s the transfer process going if you’re still doing that?

I haven’t really started other than fill out parts of the Common App, and I should be giving recommendation forms to my professors soon. Not very hopeful on that though.

Hi okay so I’m a freshman at university and currently have 4 As and 1 b plus. I want to transfer to NYU steinhardt school
In high highschool I had a 4.31 GPA on a 4 point scale I had a 2100 on my sats I was the president of my class 4 years I volunteered, played field hockey and was in national honors society and French honors society president. I’m SO worried that I won’t get accepted into NYU steinhardt an that ill have to stay at Villanova. What are my chances!??

At Villanova university *

Transferring is harder to get in, but you have great high school stats and seem to be doing really well at Nova. What also helps your cause is that Steinhardt isn’t as hard to get into as some of the other schools at NYU. Usually I’m more on the pessimistic side when it comes to the chances for transfers, but I think you’re one of the stronger transfer applicants :)

I’m applying NYU EDI this year. NYU has been my DREAM school for a long time. I’m applying math major. Is Mathematics a competitive major in NYU? I’m a Chinese girl but live in CA since four years ago. My UW GPA is around 3.6 and SAT 1960. Since my first language is not English, I took TOEFL as well. My score is 102. Can you chance me please? Both my common essays and supplements show my interest in math.

Math is competitive, but when you apply it’s to a specific school, not major. I’m assuming you’ll apply to CAS. A 3.6 UW is good. A 1960 is slightly below average, but not bad. And I don’t know anything about the TOEFL. On the surface, it looks like you’re a smack in the middle candidate. Not too strong, not too weak. It’s hard for me to say whether you’ll get in. Regular Decision is a tougher than ED, but I know people with similar profiles who have gotten in and others who have been rejected.

@Leilala – Your TOEFL is ok, it could definitely be higher. I’m an international student so I took it too and I had a 110 I think. I don’t think they really care about TOEFL as long as it’s over a certain score (usually 100). I do not recommend retaking it because it’s expensive.

But if your English isn’t good… you will have a lot of trouble, academically and socially. All the kids who didn’t speak much English in high school managed to have American friends but that’s not really going to happen in college, especially at NYU. You would have no problem just hanging out with other Chinese people, but that’s not why you’re here, is it?

Hello, could you please give me your opinions on my high school resume so far.

I also have pretty unique responses to the short answers on the supplement.

@jackhammer25 Thank you so much for chancing me!

@lullinatalk You’re absolutely right! Since I apply ED I, I don’t have time to retake my TOEFL. I’m studying in an American high school, 200 students total and only 1 more foreign student in my class, so I feel good to communicate with American people. Actually, most of my friends are American. Thank you for giving my advice =) Good luck on your application process!

@jackhammer25 Hey! Do you know what the numbers next to an applicant’s name on albert signify? have you noticed them when you applied to nyu?

@NJHopeful95

Stats are typical. Good essay responses will help you.

@kellyyhuang

Stats are good, except your unweighted GPA might be a little low, although you said you took the hardest schedule offered so that’s leverage.

Good overall applicant outside of school. Generally, I think you look like a strong candidate and you’re doing ED. If I had to guess, I’d say you’re in.

@jcezar

Might be some kind of applicant identification number. I applied two years ago, so I don’t remember. Don’t sweat it.

To everyone who has either applied or still applying, here’s my advice:

Don’t worry about it. Take your essays seriously and put some heart into it. Your high school transcript is past history. All you can do from here on out is do your best. Don’t let your parents freak you out more than they already are. And then look up to the sky and take a couple shots right before you get the admissions e-mail ;)

If you don’t get in here, then realize you’ll kill it wherever you end up.

is there any aspect of nyu that youre disappointed with?

I guess I did miss out on the traditional college experience. Having an actual campus, legit frat parties, girls, football games. Basically everything a “normal” college has to offer. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish I had gone elsewhere at some points, but in the end this is such a cool place to be to experience college. I do question at times though whether I missed out on what most of my friends are enjoying.

NYU is no doubt a unique place. But I think you’ll never really know if you truly like it until you’re here. Life definitely changes. I know people who had NYU pegged as their dream school only to come here and immediately hate it and transfer out after freshman year. And then there’s people who were skeptical, but have ultimately come to love it.

On the other hand, there’s a lot of positives. You become more independent, have access to a ton of career opportunities which in this economy can’t be understated and you aren’t in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do except party and drink like at some rural colleges. In that sense, things never get boring at NYU.

What about NYU’s biology program? Would you recommend it for students considering a medical or engineering field?
