best housing for a freshman

can someone please help me. i need to know what would be the best possibly dorm for an incoming freshman student(myself) looking to have a good time, and make friends. Can't be too much of a good time though because i am serious about my studies and the place should look pretty decent. thanks...

Rubin, Rubin, Rubin!!

Rubin is definitely my first choice..

And then Hayden.

ugh:( money talks.

well you can't have it all-- good social life, spacious and luxurious dorms, and a nice balance of academic seriousness.

all of NYU dorms have their pros and cons-- and thats for you to judge and see what matters to you more.

For example: Weinstein may be the least aesthetically nice but its the most social dorm and its very easy to make friends. On the other hand, U-Hall may be very luxurious (new facilities, private bathroom, kitchen) but is not very social and its quiet in the halls.

So its what you think is more important. They're all nice; or they all have benefits in some way

Hayden is generally the first choice for freshmen, followed by U-hall.

Hayden has AC, very social, and food
U-hall has big rooms.

I tend to disagree that rubin and weinstein are more social than Hayden.

How bad, socially, is U-Hall?

I've honestly gone to alot of parties at Uhall.

party people will be social, reclusive people will be unsocial, its the same in every dorm.

Most people will tell you the best frosh halls are either Hayden or UHall.

micheatsfish: Where did you hear UHall is not social? It's pretty social and hard drinking if you ask me (you see I actually have experience with it). Also, all NYU dorms have private bathrooms.

ABirchIII: I heard that UHall isn't social from a friend who lives there. Also when I visited her and she checked me in to see her room and just to tour the hall it was very quite. We were the only people strolling the halls. Additionally, I've been reading a lot about housing on livejournal and CC and people tend to tell me that UHall is quiet and is not very social (most of whom actually live there).

P.S Yea I'm an incoming freshmen but those were just some of my own experiences with the hall when I visited NYU, in addition to my friend's and her friend's, et al

micheeatsfish, ive gone to 40 people parties at u-hall...you won't find that anywhere else... (well me and my friend used to throw then in goddard too, but that didn't work so well)

social is such an ambigious word....party people wll throw parties regardless of where they live. You're going to make friend regardless of where your dorm is, and your goign to party with many people outside your dorm...I feel many people dont really have a clear view of "social" yet they put such importance on it. Most of the people will randomly get stuck in a room, and a social person will make friends regardless of location.

i agree with mattistotle. social ppl will be social regardless of dorm. Besides, chances are, there WILL be social people in even the least "social" dorms. If you can't find social people in your dorm, chances are, you are not very social.

what are y'all's opinions on rubin and brittany?

rubin, is my least favorite dorm

brittany is nice room size/closet space..no a/c or food court though.

Micheastsfish: I have no idea what you're talking about, UHall has ton of parties, I know this first hand, I've even thrown a few myself. When did you actually visit UHall? During the weekdays? During the day? During exams? My point is that you can't make a statement like "UHall is not social" based on one visit or on some second hand account from live journal or CC.

Anyway, Mattistotle is right, "social" is such an open ended word. People who want to party are going to party at the end of day, and every dorm has them.

Can someone tell me about Ruben in comparison to Wienstien. A review of each dorms physcal/asthetic qualities will be helpful.

Also, in the apartment style buildings, if i choose to live in a traditional room (if they exist) IN these apartment style buildings, are they all on one floor? or scattered amogst apartments

suubie

weinstein has slightly smaller rooms (id say rubin hasnt 2nd smallest overall though), but weinstein has food court and A/C.

and an addition to the social thing...if your defination of social is parties, then the dorms such as rubin and weinstein will be the least "social" since you cant fit more than a handful of people in your room, even if though there will be more "hanging out" (which i tend to disagree with)
