I know stein and CAS are amongst the hardest of the NYU schools to get into..but what about Gallatin? Do they get a lot of applicants? How is their acceptance rate? I would think there are less people applying here than to other NYU schools but I dont know for sure and could be wrong...

Thanks!!

At pre-orientation (accepted students’ day or whatever you want to call it) the admissions rep at Gallatin said that this is how the break down went this year in order of selectivity…Stern, Tisch, Gallatin, CAS, Steinhardt, Silver.

Hmm…thats interesting. Would have never thought it be more selective than CAS.
I hardly even ever hear of people applying to Gallatin.

Also, I was just wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the process of obtaining a degree you have individualized at Gallatin? I heard something about having to defend program you have made for yourself by basically writing a thesis on what you have studied and how the courses you have taken apply to the field you are looking to get into, in order to obtain the degree.

Is it hard to get your individualized degree vs. a typical degree? Do you have to go through much more to defend your individualized program?

Thanks!!

The “colloquium rationale” is what we call it. Your individualized degree should stem directly from your passions, so no, you will not “fail” this part of your degree. It won’t be any more or less difficult than a traditional degree. Though I do believe it is more exciting. :)

But don’t apply to Gallatin just to apply. They said they rejected many “qualified” applicants because they could see through their essays (a very important admission factor to Gallatin) that an individualized education wasn’t what they truly wanted.

Id like to apply because Gallatin because NYU is my dream school but they dont offer the exact program I need. I want to customize my degree for exactly what I need to succeed. I dont know what student would apply to Gallatin though just for the hell of unless NYU didnt offer what they wanted lol.

So this colloquium rationale…what exactly is it?? lol
