I’m an international transfer student. I want to know if it is easy to get in to the major said above? I will not submit any SAT as it is not required. I will submit my transcripts from the previous college that I entered, I had 87/100 (this is how our grading sysytem works). I’m an average student, no failing marks.
Extra-curriculars:
1.)Swimming team
- a varsity player for 5 years.
- joined the Sportsfest Swimming Competition in our school and won 3rd place.
- competed in local competition.
- member of the team B (2nd highest group) swimming team.
2.) Associate editor in our high school yearbook.
3.) Joined the home economics club, english club, and science club during high school.
4.) Member of the school chorale for 3 years.
5.) 3rd honor during the last quarter of 4th year high school.
6.) played a musical instrument- piano, I also played during the practical music course recital in our school auditorium.
7.) leader of the english research project.
8.) assistant leader of the science investigatory project. Got a perfect score for our invention of solar incubator.
9.) a committee at the Hotel and Restaurant Management Society during 1st year college.
10.) a member of the SCARLET chinese organization in college as well.
I also helped my mom and dad with their retail businesses during vacations.
My essays are nice but not so over the top.
Do you think I have a shot at entering this college with this major? I need some insights about this matter. Any comments will be highly appreciated. I really want this university so badly, even though I know that it is hard, that’s why I want to enter in nyu because I want to broaden my thinking skills. I want my brain to expand and be able to learn and not only memorize words.
Is it easier to get into gallatin, steinhardt or cas in my case?
Gallatin is pretty selective unless your essays are extremely strong. They’re looking for students who can fit their academic ideals and really make the most of their experience. Applied psychology is a pretty standard major that will be better served in CAS or Steinhardt. Gallatin will make you turn that major into something unconventional, but if that’s the kind of thing you’re into, you could give it a shot. I just finished my first year at Gallatin and found the academic vision really interesting and kinda fun, but it takes the right kind of student. If you’re applying to Gallatin just because it seems easier, you probably aren’t going to like the kind of learning they’ll require from you. It’s a really self-selecting program.
What about the nyu scps paul mcghee? Can you give me some insights about this? Because I like the program that they offered there which is leadership and management with specialization in international business. I stopped school for almost 2 yrs now, so I’m eligible for this program.
@Misha13 I just looked into the Paul McGhee division and I think it’s a pretty cool opportunity. If you’re looking for full time undergraduate work, I think you’ll find that as much as NYU is an atypical college experience, the Paul McGhee division would be even more so. If this wouldn’t bother you or you don’t much care, I think it’s a really great option! If you want as much of a college experience as you can get at NYU, I’d recommend one of the undergraduate schools.
No matter where you are, may it be in steinhardt, cas , stern, tisch or paul mcghee, as long as you learn then you are getting an education. It depends on the person if he will be successful after getting his degree. It is still nyu. It’s still a great college. You will still learn something about your chosen major. The teachers are still professionals. Besides, my classmates have the same situation as me too, maybe I am a better fit in this program. And, the class sizes are smaller compared to the traditional ones, which I really prefer.
