@KatSkratchFever Your stats seem very strong, so best of luck!!! I have my session/interview tomorrow, and I’m super nervous ):
Good luck u guys. I got accepted to Fordham University.
Does anyone know how does NYU HEOP decide amongst us? Is it purely based on the interview and if you actually financially applicable?
@BabyPanda33 how much are they giving you?
@Rantahu i think it based on ur family stat. for example, if someone past away or ur family income it very low, u have a higher chance. also they told me that i have to go in april to get mine FA package
@BabyPanda33 Do you think my noncustodial parent could play a factor. He left us 3 years ago and my parents aren’t divorced yet. Ugh I guess I’m out.
@Rantahu i think that may helps. also if u r a first in ur family to go college, thats going to increase ur chance.
@BabyPanda33 even thou my mom doesn’t work and on disability, my dad makes 80k, but he won’t contribute to my college anyway. Its probably going to be the death of me :’(
@Rantahu r ur parent’s income below the cutoff? also since ur mom is on disability, its a big factor.
@BabyPanda33 I live with my brother and mother and we do make far below the cut off. My father doesn’t give us money what so ever but if NYU considers my father I don’t qualify. Its killing me.
@Rantahu oh, i think u have a good chance since u have high grades and ur mom is disabled. even if u dont get heop, u can get in regular.
@Rantahu also if u invited to the info session, it means that u r qualfiy.
@BabyPanda33 I’m just being paroid. Can’t wait for 3 weeks to find out.
@Rantahu nyu may release the decision on the 29th like last year. Good Luck tmm
Who is at a better advantage? Those with slightly under academic requirements or those with greater academic disability? I don’t understand how they choose? Obviously if one was referred to the heop, the student is missing something…but who is at a better advantage?
Here’s what I got from the info session for my son
Out of 60,000 apps to the NYU only 600 were selected for consideration to HEOP / CSTep, which is where they get the 1% figure from not from the 600 selected to the pool.
145 Seats to HEOP and 55 are considered for C-Step separately by the director of the program. So with that being said out of 600 you have a 20% chance of getting in and 25% if you fit the CStep criteria.
C-Step is only open to Latino, Black, and Native American students and since it is so limited whoever that is chosen is at the discretion of the CSTep director, who actually conducted the session.
Friday was the last session and any pending paperwork has to be submitted this Monday 3/16 or you will be disqualified if you were invited to the session. The HEOP period is closed.
Decisions will be available April 1st, just after Midnight.
Good luck to everyone who was invited and interviewed the program is amazing and the 20% equates to roughly 3,000- 4,000 per year if you have to get a loan which is not bad compared to $57,000 for a commenting student or $65,000 if you live on Campus.
Housing is free for the Summer program if you get in and live outside of the 5 boroughs and so is freshman year. If you upgrade you pay the residuals.
I hope that helped. good luck…future stars!
Also HEOP is considered an alternative admission, so if you got considered by them, it is not a regular decision. They are investing in you to succeed because something about your app stood out both academically and financially.
@Rantahu Did you submit a Non Custodial CSS waiver before the 2/20 deadline? If you did you should be fine, but you have to get a letter from your Mom and a third party explaining why you can not submit your Dad’s info and how long you have not been in contact with him. My son got his back in November because his father abandoned him years ago.
