Hey guys I am a current NYU HEOP freshman. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask. Also if you can join the NYU Facebook network make sure to look for the HEOP/CSTEP page.

@HeyLeyC how much did HEOP cover for you if you don’t mind me asking?

And what classes did you take in the Pre freshman summer?

HEOP covered practically everything. My bill came out to about $320 a semester. As for the summer I took a writing class, a research class, quantitative reasoning, and one seminar. Summer courses vary depending what major/school you’re in. I’m in Gallatin so they gave us a pretty simple schedule considering all 8 of us were taking different courses in the Fall. The summer courses are made to prepare you for the Fall. So you may take a Pre freshman bio class, pre freshman calc, pre freshman MAP, pre freshman social/cultural foundations,pre freshman econ, etc. Like I said it depends on the major and school you’re in.

Congrats dude!! I’m an HEOP hopeful at Poly as well. I had my interview session last Tuesday. Mind if I ask you how long it took you to hear back from them? Also, what did they ask you in the follow up email after your interview? Thanks man, and hope to see you this summer!

OMG really? congrats to you too!!! see you this summer! I got my interview 2 weeks ago and i heard back yesterday. They didn’t ask me anything through email after i had my interview except something last minute like my parents finances etc.

Not yet! I haven’t heard back from them. I only had my interview 1 week ago. Hoping to get something this week or next. I’m so anxious :(

Oh goodluck!! :)

Thanks!!
And just to let you know I got your PM. However, due to the fact that I have under 15 post, I am unable to reply at this moment
Once I get the required number of posts, I’ll be sure to shoot you a message :D

Haha, alright Did you apply to other schools that have HEOP or EOP? I did EOP/ HEOP for all my other schools and they all told me, my grades were too high to be considered for it and only NYU seems to give me the chance so i’m happy about this :)

I got accepted to NYU 2017 too and am so excited to meet all of you guys. Can’t wait for July! I got an email with my acceptance but I was wondering if any of you guys received any snail mail from NYU?

@HeyLeyc Hey! Thank you for making yourself available to us! I have a few questions. Do the grades from the summer session count towards your fall GPA, or is it solely just to help the transition. Also, is it really strict as far as activities go, because I have a concert planned for one night in August thats been planned for a month now and I wanted to make sure I would actually be able to go to it without penalty. Thank you so much HeyLeyc!

@ HeyleyC

I can’t seem to understand my financial aid. I see accepted and offered and the amounts. But how did you know you have to pay $320 a semester?

@romelw13

Your summer GPA will not count towards your Fall GPA, but it will be on your transcript so do not screw up.

Last year (my year) they added a curfew. Every night we had to be in the dorms by a certain time. (I can’t remember the time) Also we were not allowed to stay home on the first weekend, midterm weekend, and finals weekend. The curfew didn’t really work last year. Everyone complained about, but I think they’re going to continue having it. As far as activities, there’s a ton of stuff to do to have fun, but of coarse no illegal things can happen in the dorm (drinking,etc) If you have a concert on a specific date make sure it’s not on one of those weekends (double check on the weekends rule when you arrive this summer). If it falls on a weekday and you have to miss curfew, tell the counselors you’re staying home that night. Whatever you decide to do, you have to inform your peer counselors because you can get in big trouble if they don’t know where you are. Trust me, they’re not all strict, but they have to be aware of where you.

Your financial aid package will continue to change until August, but don’t be too scared. Last year my aid just continued to increase. Big thing that most people miss is the TAP application. YOU MUST COMPLETE IT ON TIME. If you do not you will miss out on a lot of money.

You will know your final balance in mid August.

@ HeyleyC

Thanks, but wasn’t sure how to read it…

Aid Year 2013-2014

It says Offered: 49,212.00
Accepted: 43,962.00

And then says Fall 2013
Offered: 24,607.00
Accepted: 21,982.00

And also can you tell me more about your experience at NYU. How was it being a HEOP student? Also, did you plan on staying in new york city for college?

Thanks. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey HeyleyC I was just wondering, do all HEOP students have to dorm over the summer?
Thanks :D

@tajmina

In total you received $49,212. So far what you have accepted (I believe this excludes loans) is 43,962. I do not think you can accept until later on. Since, the 49,212 is the total for the entire year, half of that is 24,607. So you were offered 24,607 per semester (totaling 43,692)

Honestly I love NYU. It was my first choice school and I couldn’t be happier. Being a HEOP student is great for the fact that I’m not freaking out about being in so much debt. You’ll hear about other student complaining about the cost when you’re pretty much attending for free-not a big deal though. Yes I did plan on going to college in the city. I wasn’t into the whole college-in-the-middle-of-nowhere. That being said, if you’re looking for your traditional college campus, you might want to rethink attending NYU. There’s no such thing as dorm parties, unless you’re an upperclassman and have an apartment-style dorm. Most people party at local clubs and brooklyn parties. If you’re not into partying, it’s always fun hanging out with close friends in your dorm (if you’re dorming). If you don’t plan on dorming I suggest making friends who dorm.

Btw, I suggest making friends with people in HEOP. These are people you will spend your summer with and spend the academic year with (you need to attend weekly HEOP seminars and workshops). The HEOP students I met last summer are my closest friends at NYU.

@NYC2017

The only HEOP students that dorm in general are the ones who live outside of the five boroughs and the ones that live within the five boroughs who sent in an appeal for housing.
