Oh ok, thanks for the help
Also, for those who sent in an appeal for housing, do they get housing for the summer only or for the whole year?

If your appeal is accepted then you will receive housing for all four years.

Cool. Thanks for all the info :D

Thanks Heyley for your help, one more thingā¦

Who do I send the appeal to? Did you request for housing?

Thanks HeyLeyC.

My other questions was,
How does the stipen work?
Do they just give you money semesterly?
Also does work study go towards your tution cost or is it money rewarded for working?

HeyLeyC:

Can you tell us about the sumer session? What goes on, classes we might take (Iām attending CAS), is the work ver demanding, how long is the school day, etc. Will we have to do only this year or throughout our studies at NYU?

And what is expected of us during the academic year. How often are seminars and workshops held, and what happens at these seminars/workshops.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey, does anybody know how they notify you of the decision? Is it through email or regular mail? I also checked on NYU Albert and it stated that admission decisions will NOT be posted online. They said decisions were going to be released April 1st but I havenāt received anything. Iām anxiously waiting!

@HeyleyC
You mentioned that theres curfew and some rules you have to follow. Do you know what some of these are? Im not trying to be in a place where my life is completely controlled! If so, do these rules apply ONLY for the summer program or throughout the four years as well? Most of us are already adults so I canāt understand where this is coming from! What is your input/thoughts on this specifically? Did this have any major impacts on you while there? And since it is summer I would really enjoy exploring the city as well without any sort of restriction! Thank you!

Last year I was in contact with Sheila Williams. Call the OP office and ask about the appeal and who to send it to. Sorry, Iām just not sure who is in charge of OP housing this year.

@boywithpan

You receive a stipend every semester. This year we received $850 a semester (mind you this is a HEOP stipend and not for CSTEP) You get it in a form of a check or you can get it direct deposit. I strongly suggest direct deposit because youāll get the money once the checks are out and you donāt have to wait until your second week of the Fall semester.

work study money is not guaranteed. itās funds for working a job at NYU. Basically anyone can hold a job at NYU, work study is federal money so the state pays you and not the job. Once your work study funds are done your job and can choose to keep you and pay you with their money or you can have to leave the job until next semester. This money awarded to you for an hourly basis and is supposed to be used for your own expenses. (Just like a reg, job)

I canāt answer about the classes you have to take. I am in Gallatin so I did not take the same classes a CAS student took. It also depends on your major. I definitely know that you have to take some form of writing class, a OP seminar (where you discuss several topics such as aid, the school, your major, etc) and a math course. Your summer schedule is designed to have classes that will help you with your Fall semester courses.

The days vary and it depends on your schedule. The summer program is only done once. After this summer you need to take workshops during the academic year (only for your first year). For example, if you take intro to psych you need to sign up for a HEOP psych workshop that will help you with your class. The workshops are just done to help you in the class youāre taking.

I suggest you call admissions about your application status.

You do have a curfew which is established by HEOP. You are under their wing during the summer program so they do not want anything to happen to you and they also want to make sure you are doing your work. You have to follow rules of the residence hall (you can google them) Your life is not completely controlled. You can do whatever you like you just canāt do anything illegal or miss curfew. The curfew is only for the summer. and The residence hall rules are all year long in each hall.

The rules for the summer really arenāt that bad. Really, you can do whatever you want as long as itās legal and you donāt miss curfew (which i think is midnight, i donāt remember)

If I wanted to go out after the curfew I simply asked a peer leader to go out with me. (this was usually to buy something quick or to just take a walk). The peer leaders were really cool about things. Some were lenient and some were not.

So you can definitely explore the city. Just go to class, get your homework done, and donāt miss curfew!

Wow! Thatās awesome. Okay, thanks for answering all of my questions so well!
I think Iām going to commit to NYU/ Class of 2017!

@HeyLeyC youāve been awesome thank you for all of your help and @boywithpan I have committed as well so we should link up somehow. Im on facebook/twitter and email works too. Congrats everyone!

I applied for NYU and got an interview for HEOP. I can still access the NYU Albert page does that mean Iāve been accepted?

Iām getting my package tomorrow :)

Does the financial aid package change as you move on to your soph, junior and senior year? NYU HEOP still continues to cover 85% of the tuition right? Can you tell me abt the type of classes you had to take in the summer and what you think of NYU right now? Do you think it was worth going to? I was accepted and was having second thought abt the HEOP program. Thanks :D

@nishat095 when did you get your acceptance? I still havenāt received anything at all

Yes of course itās worth it! Why would anyone turn down on it? FA will still cover your costs for the next 4 years. the summer program is only for prefreshmen year thats it.

I didnt get anything until I called them and asked them for a decision on April 1st. I heard that a lot of people were accepted/rejected so you can just call them. And they told me they sent me an email but I never got it, so they just emailed it again. You can call the undergrad office, they were really nice abt it.

@nishat095 Iām so scared to call. Idk what Iām gonna do if I donāt get in. Itās my dream school and Iām so nervous

@Nishat096 what number did you call, becauze i called the HEOP offices and they told me that if you turned any documents later than usual you decision was going to be late! Im trying to find out ASAP becuse i need to make my decision. In between Oswego because theyāre giving me a full ride and NYU HEOP (if i get in). Thanx!

Lets say one of my parents were to get a new job or there was an increase in wages outside of the set bracket for my family. What would happen, would I be removed from heop?
