@davinasaltos I hope you interview went well! how were the questions ? was the group interview small ? What could have done better ? if you don’t mind, please share some of the questions they asked. Thanks!
Okay guys, the interview was great! It’s in a group so it’s more like a conversation, there were only two other people in my group luckily. They separate you by the area of study you showed interest in or where your major lies. The guy who interviewed us was super nice and easy to talk to, not a formal interview at all, but nonetheless he’s still taking down notes while you’re answering the questions. Some of the general questions asked were: why NYU, how would your parents feel about you dorming here if you’re going to, what is one major subject on the news and today’s world that College students should be aware of, what do you do to rid yourself of stress, what are you passionate about, what motivates you to do well in your current classes, what do you do for fun. Basic questions, they also give you one scenario, if a kid in your college class said something about how HEOP is unfair because they only look at minorities, how would you feel about that comment? Would you act upon it or stay quiet, what would you do.
@203267422 Nice. I first wrote about what drove me and what was my motivation and it was because of my struggling parents that have high hopes for my success. Then I wrote about what school I wanted to go into and writing about why I wanted to major in finance. I included stuff like their abroad program which is one of the best and I wrote how it would help me and what I want out of it. Last, I wrote about how the city lifestyle would be amazing and how there will always be new things.
Also, do you think NYU cares about mid year reports?
@savagescholar That’s sounds great and yes they do, I wish they didn’t though =D>
Hi everyone!
After having my interview today, the greatest advice i can give you is just to relax =)
It’s an informal interview, according to the interviewer their are no right or wrong answers, they are just trying to get to know you! The questions are really simple and again informal. BE yourself. I wish you guys the best of luck!
I’ll keep you guys posted if anything changes, If you have any questions ask away!
What are your stats? @pleasedonot
Hi everyone… I had my interview for HEOP yesterday!! I received an email on Jan 26th saying that I am among a select group of students who they are considering for HEOP. The email came with instructions to sig up for one of the interviews and I had mine yesterday. I am definitely eligible academically wise, but it think my parents make more than the eligibility requirements do you think that will affect my acceptance? I am really nervous because I know I have the grades and SAT scores for HEOP but my parents make more than what HEOP looks for. I applied to Stern btw
@ivannatorilla from what I’ve heard they are very strict regarding economic eligibility. Even if you’re a dollar over the threshold you are not considered. What are your stats btw?
@ivannatorilla yes. Like @ilovecollege1998 , I’m very interested in your academic record.
@ilovecollege1998 omg are you serious?? because i definitely do not qualify economically, so am i instantly denied from NYU or just through the HEOP program?? like if they liked my stats for HEOP but not finances could i still be accepted but NOT through HEOP? and to @savagescholar as well as @ilovecollege1998 , my stats are:
GPA: 3.7 (weighted)
SAT: 1740 CR M and W
Recs: from my boss at my job who was an NYU alumni, and from my chemistry teacher whom is well respected in the chemical industry he invented something idk lol
Essay: i wrote about the struggles of being Hispanic and about a traumatic relationship and how both have made me grow
Extracurriculars: I was selected to take an economics and leadership program at UC Berkeley, I volunteered for Special Olympics twice, one time in the summer i organized an auction to help fundraise for Special Olympics and raised $150,000, I have been a varsity crew coxswain for 4 years (if anyone is familiar with that sport), I am in several clubs at school, including Interact, S2S, and Youth in Government and i was elected as state assembly person for youth in government to attend a luncheon at Albany in the capital building with a senator.
For each school year, every class I have taken has been honors, for senior year I am taking: SUPA Econ/Public Affairs, Precalc honors, AP English, AP Biology, and AP Physics
Overall, the only thing that is below average for NYU is my SAT score. Which is why im sure i was eligible for HEOP
I have been dreaming about NYU my whole life so I am praying that my financial status will not have a defect on my acceptance if you have nay questions about the interview yesterday or my stats or anything at all, feel free to ask!!!
Any questions on what I wrote about for “why NYU” and for my personal essay i have a document for both if you would like to read them i can email them to get an idea, ask away and i would love to take a look at some of yours too
i applied ED II btw
@ivannatorilla honestly From what I’ve read about nyu, they’re not all about grades! Your stats seem great especially if what’s holding you back are you sat scores, you’ll only be excluded from HEOP and still have a chance through regular admission… They might like you as a person and still admit you! Remember your grades are just a part of the admission decision, it’s not determined on that as a whole, I say you definitely have a chance for regular admission! And if you’d like to exchange essays email me! @maria.sidibe@aol.com
@sincerlyyours Sorry for the delay in response. 86 Avg(weighted) and since i am submitting my IB scores, I have to wait till May… so For now i’ve submitted just estimates.
Guys, check your Albert account. There’s an interview event for me and I applied RD but I have yet to receive an invitation email. It might be a glitch since the 2019 thread had the same problem and it ended up being a glitch. I’ll call Monday to make sure.
@savagescholar yeah it’s giving me the option to RSVP for the interview.
@ilovecollege1998 did you get an invitation email though?
nope, and when I try to RSVP it says I don’t have authorization to do so. I’m gonna wait for the email, btw what date is it showing for you @savagescholar
I got one and it let me rsvp so I did, @ilovecollege1998
Which I think I shouldn’t have lol
Guys, I got an email the day after I attended the info session saying they needed an updated TAP confirmation, and I did complete it when I got that email, then submitted it off the HESCP website. Do I have to fax that to the NYU office or just leave it at that? Did anyone else do this?
