Hi, I applied RD for NYU Poly and I got a mail that said my application was referred to HEOP. What are the qualifications of HEOP? I searched online and it says the income of a family of four can not exceed $40,000. My family makes 60,000+. Is this way of saying I'm rejected?

Not necessarily. If you do not meet the income requirements for HEOP, many of the candidates are referred to the General Studies program (GS), which is similar to HEOP but does not have any specific income requirements. You could then be accepted under GS and attend NYU-Poly.

I still don’t get the difference between HEOP and GS… I had the same similar situation as the OP but I could’ve got into HEOP since I know I meet the guidelines for HEOP but was not referred to HEOP and they put me for GS…

I went to the information session and they told us that if you do not get accepted through heop then you will not get into nyu period not to get your hopes down thats just what they said :3 you guys also have to have a certain grade to get into heop

Its true that if you don’t get in through HEOP then you can’t get into NYU at all. I got into the GS program and now I requested HEOP so now they are evaluating me for HEOP. If i don’t get HEOP then i’m still accepted because I already got admitted through regular admissions. Weird. I know.

@lilmelonred do you know if its okay that i sent in my TAP on monday? It takes a few weeks to process but I dont know if theyll accept it :/

Yes you can send in TAP on Monday. You can even send it when you know for sure that you’re going to NYU. You can only send TAP to one school ( the school you are attending)

@lilmelonred thank you so much :D

Oh yeah, When you applied for FAFSA, you were suppose to also fill out TAP with it. Thats why its better to fill it out earlier when you did FAFSA. You can always change the info on there

wait so you think they wont consider my tap application for HEOP? I got an email saying that they were going to take a few weeks to see how much money I got, Id feel really dumb if I didnt get tap considered at all for nyu if I got accepted :(

TAP will be available for students who need full Pell grant. If you want, go ahead and submit it now. You can change it whenever you can. There is no deadline for TAP I think. I know people who send in TAP mad late and still got it.

oh ok so theres still hope btw one more question lol you seem really knowledgeable, do you know if HEOP or EOP lasts for all four years of undergraduate studies or do they take it away slowly or even after the second year as Ive heard?

Well if you are a HEOP student, you will be a HEOP student for the 4 years of your undergrad. The only thing is that before you enter freshmen year, you must complete the summer program. After that, you don’t need anymore summer program… You will just receive extra counseling, tutoring and financial help from the school :). You take classes with other HEOP and regular and honors students. It’s a good thing to be in this program since they give you more attention and care so that they help you graduate on time and be successful. HEOP/ EOP/ SEEK all have higher graduation rates than any other programs on a college campus. Your diploma is not going to say HEOP or anything. It will say you graduated this college with BA/BS in (your major). HEOP is just a support program.

Ohh okay awesome so the financial aid wont ever be taken away as long as you keep your grades up?

Yep. As long you keep up with your grades, you will receive your financial and other support. That shouldn’t be a problem because the program is monitoring your progress and ensuring that you are excelling. :)

Oh ok awesome that sounds great thanks :)!
