I've recently been accepted into NYU ED through the HEOP. I live in Long Island, NY. Does anybody know if I'm supposed to dorm there or if I'll be commuting during the summer program? Or is dorming not an option for anyone during this pre-college period?

Living in the NYU dorms during the HEOP summer program is optional if you live in the five boroughs or within commuting distance, e.g., Long island, according to the program associate director.

I am not sure if you want to live in NYU housing or not during the HEOP summer program?

Call or email the following person if you require more info:

Are you sure to say that you were accepted? If you applied ED2 then, like me, you have been “considered”. Considered students are required to attend HEOP information session/interview this Friday; there we’ll learn about the program, give tax forms, etc. If everything goes right, we should get a decision on February 15th, like the rest of ED2 applicants. Good luck!!!

Edit: I just wanted to add that while you’re “considered”, you shouldn’t feel discouraged at all. Being considered means that you’ve demonstrated something that HEOP wants, and this infomration session/interview is just so they have the opportunity to see you in person, as well as verify that you meet the economic portion of eligibility. You’ve already passed the most difficult part of the admissions process, you just have to cross that final stretch.

If you do not live within the boroughs you are given room and board. Since you’ve been accepted your financial aid summary should include dorming cost

and yankeemonkey, American Spaniard said he was accepted ED, I’m assuming ED1

Btw good luck this Friday
I was already accepted ED1

Thanks! And yes, I was quick to assume that because I was called earlier this week and this thread happened to show up two days after.

heyleyc: exactly =) I’m so excited! What school are you going into?

evolving: I actually spoke with Sheila Williams from Albert O. Eve two days ago and she confirmed that I would be able to be housed there… And I most certainly do want to =)

I’m going to gallatin.

You’re so lucky that you get to dorm…heop won’t pay for dorm because I live in queens.
I wonder if I can still apply for housing, I know heop won’t pay for it, but my parents can pay for a low cost triple at Rubin.

HeyleyC, yes you can still apply for housing, but they most likely will not pay for it, but you can certainly dorm there.

HeyleyC: When I went to visit the campus and to the information tour, I was told that I needed to APPEAL, APPEAL, and APPEAL. Phoebe, the our tour guide, said that was a word we needed to get into our heads. So, if possible, ask them. You don’t really lose anything =) What date was your HEOP interview?

I really hope I join you guys this summer… there’s five days left before the decisions are mailed out so I’m anxious as hell…

Wow, congratulations on your acceptance to NYU HEOP. I also applied to NYU RD and hopefully will get in with HEOP. I have not been called for an interview yet and am getting worried… :

Are they still accepting students for HEOP?

Another member had their HEOP interview last week.

yankeemonkey: did you get a response yet??? I get so excited with every freshman!!!

Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t get my response until the 23rd and I haven’t been on here since. Unfortunately, I got a rejection; I feel pretty devastated :(

What aggravates me is that this was my one chance to be able to attend NYU, and I feel like I blew it. Of course, I could always attempt to transfer from whatever college I’ll be going to (most likely CUNY Baruch). However, the transfer rate to Stern is ridiculously low (less than 12%), and even if I was part of that accepted pool, NYU would give me crap financial aid (or at least, not up to par with what HEOP would’ve offered me) so I wouldn’t be able to attend anyway!

Anyhow, I don’t know what to do now. I hope you guys enjoy NYU and the city, I’ll be a few blocks away…

Have my interview on Friday… : I

Good luck! Also btw it’s really not an interview unless you’re applying to Stern.

@Yankeemonkey683

Yeah, I applied for Stern and interview went good. Just hoping on getting acceptance letter soon!!!

@Yankeemonkey683

I hope you’re okay even though you got rejected this year. EDII is much tougher round of admissions. :[ It’s okay! I have a friend that transferred over to NYU this semester for his sophomore year… not for heop though :/

Can you explain maybe why certain people get rejected after going to the HEOP meetings? I always thought that after you get the letter of consideration, you’re basically in. What makes them second guess your acceptance?

From what they told me during the information session, I was informed that they contact ~500 students (this is before they determine financial eligibility) to come in for the session; they admit ~120 into the HEOP program. For Stern, they accept a measly 10, and required all their applicants to have an interview.

I’m not trying to scare you sj1339, but I’m just informing you (as well as anyone who gets a call) that the odds are against you. Although you should always have high hopes, be prepared for the rejection that might come; I wish I could say I was prepared :(

500 called at one interview or throughout the whole process? I applied RD and haven’t heard anything yet.
