Like I said, they told us at the HEOP information session. Don’t take my word for it, though, you can call them and ask.

skzkcks: 500 called in total for info sessions. you should call them if they have not contacted you regarding heop.

@Yankeemonkey683 I’m trying not to keep my hopes up, but that’s a little hard to do when you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go somewhere…
Have they already contacted everyone for regular decision HEOP?

hey everyone… i had my heop interview around 2 weeks ago. i’m not sure im going to get it because my parents are seperated. i explained to NYU my situatin and they should consider my mom’s tax forms only because my dad doesnt contribute to anything. but they still had my dads tax forms. hoping i get in but probably wont because i think i make too much by like 800 dollars lol

HEY GUYS. Congrats on your acceptances. NYU is a reach for me and I’ve applied through decision. I received an email yesterday about the HEOP interview. I’ve heard that the HEOP for NYU has no SAT requirements, like other colleges. I’m not sure if I would be able to go to the interview, because I don’t know if it’ll be worth it (because with my SAT score, it’s going to be a bit impossible, pretty low). Also, I don’t think I’ll have all the papers prepared by Thursday because one of the papers requires a signature from the Social Security office, I think. If I do attend the interview, I’d have to go crazy to get this all figured out. SO WHAT do you guys think? Do you think it’d be worth it? Again, NYU is a reach for me. (even though it has always been my dream school. I’m a terrible test taker. but I have a 3.7 GPA)

I meant to say *regular decision. Please guys help me out asap!

If you believe that NYU is a reach for you, then you should by all means go to the interview. If you never go, you’ll never know if you would’ve gotten in.

Also, you don’t need to have all the financial documentation turned in by the day of the interview, they simply would like it if you did. They’ll give you a checklist with a faxing number to send all additional documents you need after your session.

go to the interview !
you were selected out of many students. this means that NYU is still considering you. NYU was a reach school for me, my guidance counselor told me I wasn’t going to get in, but guess what? I’m IN!

just go to the heop session. take all the documents you already have on hand and then take in the remaining documents another day.

trust me, just go. you never know, you may get it!

(btw, which school did you apply to?)

Cupcake608, you got to up your attitude. There are plenty of students who would like to be in your position.
Yes, you should definitely go. HEOP offers an amazing opportunity to attend a world class university with very good financial aid. You’d be crazy not to attend. But then again, don’t go and let someone who wants to be there get your spot.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I am going to the interview and it’s actually next week Thursday. I applied to NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. It has always been a dream to attend this university but I am so nervous! my SAT score is too low so I don’t even think I’ll be accepted. My GPA, extracurricular, essays are fine overall but this score kills my app and I’ve heard that NYU only looks for high SAT scores :(I’M STILL GOING!

@Heyley: congrats!!!

Cupcake608,
The HEOP program eligibility is slightly different. The SAT threshold is lower than regular admission. But you still need a stellar application including EC, how much you challenged yourself, work, volunteering, etc. Its not just about the scores.
Good luck!

HEOP is a state funded program that is offered at several private universities in New York State. HEOP is an opportunity program, giving students who wouldn’t have an opportunity to go to college to be able to do so. They provide both academic and financial assistance. The program requires you to be of low income and have either a lower GPA and/or SAT score, since it is designed to help only academically and economically disadvantaged students.

However, admission to HEOP is not the same from school to school. A school like NYU will still be very selective, so in reality these students are usually not really academically disadvantaged, just economically advantaged. They usually just have somewhat lower SAT scores (sometimes GPA) than the average student that gets accepted into NYU. In my opinion it’s a good program because it takes away a lot of the over reliance of SAT scores (largely caused by the US News ranking methodology) and focuses on other aspects of a student, while also providing good financial aid.

does anyone know when we find out if we were accepted or not???

AFAIK, April 1st. Some get it earlier I’m sure, but that’s when we were told to start making calls to accepted prospectives.

hey guys! so i went to the interview already and i think it went well! but they gave me a checklist of things i’m missing, like 2 documents. do you think they’ll still consider me even though i’m missing these docs (which i will fax to them asap)??? i’m really scared. i loved the university and ugh i want it so badly!!! also, what exactly do they look for now that we went to the interview and all???

also!!! the program asks for verification of non-filing, because my father doesn’t file taxes,. I know that i have to fill out form 4506-T and fax that to the IRS, who will then mail it to NYU. how long do you think this process will take? because I need everything in by FRIDAY the 30th, or else my chance to attend my dream school will be gone. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Relax…calm down…just do everything they asked you to do and hope all goes well.

Did anyone apply to NYU Stern through HEOP? If yes, do you have interview or information session or already had it in the past? Please need more information on how it is like?
Thanks!
