So I'm an international student and I've been accepted into LSP Paris at NYU and Fordham LC. I want to major in journalism and was wondering what some of your opinions were on either school. NYU has been my #1 for a while but I think spending freshman year abroad would mean that I'd miss out on a lot. Also Fordham seems like a fantastically chilled and open school.

Sorry but I really need some advice!

Is this a serious question?? The Bronx vs. Paris?

^^^^^ what a childish and wrong response that is. Good grief.

Let me enlighten you.

The OP first of all stated he/she was accepted at Lincoln Center campus of Fordham. That is a mini NYU in many respects and a tremendous school with 9 Fulbright scholars last year alone. Hello? Anyone home?

Further, Fordham Rose Hill (Bronx main campus) is a gorgeous gothic campus next to the New York Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo, on 90 lush acres, with sports facilities and 5,000 undergrads. Its a tremendous Jesuit school with a storied history, both in terms of actors as well as politicians and other government figures. Just google it to find out.

spending Freshmen year abroad is a challenge. When you return everyone is already best buddies etc and you have to fit in. Like a transfer student. For some that is not a big deal. For others its a huge deal.

The OP is an international student, so maybe being in Paris is not as exciting as it might be for someone from Topeka Kansas. I really don’t know.

Every decision is personal and subjective and nobody here can answer that question but the OP. All we can do is be supportive and provide accurate information.

Finally, for many being at Fordham in the Bronx is a chance to learn on two levels and earn “two degrees” in one. Many Fordham students embrace the Bronx, including Little Italy on Arthur Ave, with some of the best and most affordable restaurants in the entire city, by doing neighborhood outreach programs or tutoring at risk students. Metro North stops at Rose Hill at its gates and takes kids safely to Grand Central Terminal in 15 minutes.

Lincoln Center is a great school as well and has big expansion plans, plus a new law school building. Its on Fordham’s website.

Kids at LC love it, and many go onto great internships in journalism/communications, as Fordham has awesome connections at major media outlets.

I don’t bash schools so I wont say much about NYU. Other than it is very big and 100% urban. Fordham’s theatre and dance programs are highly respected as well, at Lincoln Center. And Central Park is literally two blocks away.

Good luck, OP.
