Hi...I've always been really interested in theater and NYC, but due to sports, have not been able to fully participate in high school. I've decided never the less to apply to NYU as an international relations major in the College of Arts and Sciences. I want to take theater classes and be exposed to that type of atmosphere, but is it overwelming? Is there more to the school than it's theater department and are their many opportunities for non-majors to participate?

"Is there more to the school than it's theater department "

dude are you being serious? like seriously, (edited by JEM).

CAS isnt for theater, theater is done in Tisch, and is only one department in Tisch. There are 7 different colleges in nyu. It has one of the best business schools in the country Stern ( rated number 3, 2nd in finance). It has one of the best CAS in teh country, which is no way related at all to theatre. It has steinhardt for teaching and for music. It has school of social work for social work. It has gallatin for individual study.

seriously man (edited by JEM).

sne, I have a D who is a drama major at Tisch. Unless you are a drama major, you cannot take the classes that majors take. There are a few drama courses offered in the open arts curriculum (for non-majors) but they are fairly elementary compared to the majors' courses. Drama majors study at several professional acting studios throughout Manhattan three days of the week, then take their other courses on the remaining two days. There are extracurricular theatre opportunities at NYU which non-majors can participate in but you would not be able to participate in Tisch productions.

haha thanks. I really just decided to apply there recently. I'm doing research here (thanks for the welcoming).

thank you alwaysamom

Wow...cruel much Matt? You don't always have to be so rude...someone was just asking a simple question.

thanks jacob! thats what I was thinking! haha

i wasnt being mean, he thought NYU was only a theatre school, what was i suppose to say lol

actually i'm a "she" and i know its not only a theater school, but beeing in NYC and since drama is a popular major, I was just wondering. obviously i've seen how large their business influence is...i've researched some. i'm going into international relations....possibly international finance. i realize NYU would be good in that respect but I was just wondering how non-majors could fit into the "theater world" there...thanks for the response though matt!

well now u know nyu is much more lol , sorry if i sounded harsh, im sick and took alot of pain killers and crap, dont mind me , i guess i took your question wrong or something.. but im just so sick of answering questions that you can find the answer to in two minutes of exploring nyu.edu

i gotcha...have you applied/been accepted or anything there?

accepted into stern :)

lol it's funny watching matt act like he knows so much... he used to be just as lazy as those new kids.
matt used to even ask for the NYU phone number, how lazy is that?

haha pretty darn lazy!

LOL, that is funny, and Matt, you don't "have to" answer all these questions...you don't even go to the school yet, so how could you possibly answer everything?

im omniscient
