i'm actually doing this for a friend. she's interested in majoring in communications. she's torn between nyu and emerson. her parents are pushing her to go to NYU because it's more prestigious. she wants to go to emerson, as it specializes in what she wants to major in and has a campus/sense of community (her words, i don't know i don't know much about either school). please, don't just say she should go to NYU without some support. I realize this is the NYU board, but I would appreciate it if you could give me your honest thoughts.. this is someone's future on the line.

I don't believe in forcing somebody to go to any college they don't want to. I don't have any way to help your friend convince her parents that she should go to Emerson, because I don't know anything about it, but she's more likely to succeed in a place she loves.

Since Emerson College specializes in Communications and Arts, it would appear that it's a better choice than NYU. I'm not an expert in this area, so that's where my input must come to an end.

so...
emerson- specializes in her major, she loves the school
nyu- "more prestigious"

i think her choice is pretty obvious: emerson

I want to apply to both NYU and Emerson next year...not sure if this helps..for writing/communications...and Emerson would definitely be my choice over Nyu..well at the moment.

she should probably visit both places if possible. I'm majoring in communications as well, and i chose not to apply to emerson because i don't like schools with so few students (my reasons for this is that its harder to find your niche, harder to avoid people you don't like, etc). I suggest she visit both places to get a feel for both environments before deciding. Both schools have very good communications programs and numerous opportunities, so i don't think she can make a wrong decision here.
