Ithaca vs. Emerson - which is best to transfer to NYU with?

Hi, I recently sent in my deposit to Emerson College in Boston (for Marketing Comm with minor in Photography) then about 2 days later, got a phone call from Ithaca College (was waitlisted) saying that I was now accepted into their journalism program. I am still unsure as to where to go. NYU was my #1 school but I got rejected Early Decision. I still hope to transfer there after my first year at whatever college I choose. I know that transfer acceptance depends a lot on my grades/performance in my first year of college, but I was also wondering which school, Emerson or Ithaca, will look better to NYU and make me stand out more? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You’d probably have a more compelling reason if you went to Ithaca, since you could say you want to be in a city to have more job opportunities for your major (journalism), which Ithaca, NY, doesn’t offer. This would be moot if you went to Emerson.

I don’t know if I can make a general statement from my personal experience, but I’m currently an Emerson freshmen and I was accepted as a transfer applicant to NYU.

If you don’t end up transferring (for whatever reason), where would you be happier?

college_ruled said the exact same thing I would have said. Pick the one you’ll be happiest with if you don’t transfer. While the Media/Communications program here isn’t too hard to transfer into, the Journalism major is very competitive. So, pick the college you like the best.

As a freshman in the process of transferring, I can assure you that more thought needs to be put into this decision instead of simply figuring out which college will be a better stepping stone to NYU. Regardless of whether or not you transfer, you’re going to spend a year of your life at one of those institutions. If you pick a school you don’t see yourself happy at, trust me, that year can be long and miserable.

No matter what anyone here may like to think, your work ethic and character are what’re going to get you into NYU. Not what school you go to.

I’m an undergrad at Emerson and I’m looking to transfer to NYU also. What are some of the things you suggest I do? Did you contact the counselors beforehand? I don’t know what I should do!!
