NYU or other NY college transfer

I'm considering on being a transfer student for my junior year of college. I want to go somewhere in NYC, preferably NYU but don't know if my stats match up.

I have about a 3.1/4.0 GPA from DePaul. ACT was 26 (34 on English which is one of my main considered majors and 99th percentile on writing). High school GPA was about 3.1. I have one F in math from DePaul. The rest are As Bs and like 2 Cs.

If not NYU any other goods schools in NYC with housing since I'll be out-of-state? Also, I'm and English or philosophy major, one of the LA&S degrees, not entirely sure however.

Thanks for the advice!

Try looking up Queens College, St. Johns University, and perhaps one of the other CUNYs with housing. Apartments are also a choice and then you could apply to anywhere.

CUNY’s are the cheapest for an OOS but coming from a student who is in the CUNY system,am warning you it sucks, badly.

BTW St. Johns, Pace and Hofstra is a waste of money.

I think the only problem you may run into is housing. Since the CUNY system is full of commuter students they don’t really cater to OOS. Yes, some of the CUNY schools do have housing but it’s limited. They may give you housing referrals but this can get really expensive when having to rent an apartment in Manhattan.

Thanks for the advice. I heard Queens is mostly commuter? I’d prefer something less commuter since I’m out of state and would like more people in the same boat as me. Thanks!

i think most of the publics in NY would be a waste of your time and money, as would st. john’s and hofstra (which is on long island). the only one that might be worth it is suny stony brook, but even that’s really not all that.

3.1 is low for NYU CAS, which is where the English and Philosophy departments are located. Most successful NYU CAS transfer students have at least a 3.3, if not 3.5+. I would raise your GPA as much as possible.

Yes, Queens is a commuter school.

Going to a SUNY as an OOS is expensive, it’s about $27,000 for the year.

Fordham requires at least a 3.0 to transfer but they are selective and the tuition is about $37,000. Since you are OOS housing ranges from $7,000-$15,000. You’ll be paying about $44,000-52,000 a year. That is crazy.
