NYU or USC

I'm applying for NYU Steinhardt Applied Psychology and USC CAS Psychology, but I don't know whether or not I should apply ED to NYU (hoping that it'll increase my chances.)
I'm really into acting/singing/dancing at my school. I can give you more information about me if necessary. Thanks!

Applying ED makes sense only IF:

-The ED school is the ONE school you would attend over all others

AND:

-You know you can afford to attend the ED school

If you cannot make both of those statements about NYU, then applying ED does not make sense. If you can make both of those statements about NYU, then applying ED would be a sensible course of action.

Good luck!

If your true interests are in the performing arts, why are you majoring in psychology? SC has top notch programs in theatre, music and even a business/cinematic arts major. Would these be a better fit for you?

NYU and SC have a different “vibe”. Have you visited both universities? NYU does not administer a great deal of financial aid.

IF you apply ED and are accepted there is no opportunity to compare financial aid packages.

USC all the way. For one, its in LA, CA. Two, ranked higher than NYU.

NYU doesn’t give much aid, while USC is one of the most generous.

I opted to come to USC, even though I’m from NYC.

one thing to keep in mind: NYU has no campus, no school spirit, and virtually no sports.
USC has all that, but its harder to get around without a car.

I went on the NYU campus tour and it didn’t particularly get me excited at all. Though I love NYC and could easily live there, I figured for my university experience I wanted to attend and enjoy the vibrant student life at a school like USC.

I think academically both USC and NYU are equally strong and they both have great theater departments. If you’re into the rah-rah, frat/sorority, sports type scene, then USC is a better match. If you’re more individualistic, then NYU might be better for you. At USC, it’s best to have a car, but at NYU you should not have a car. The public transportation system around NYU is fantastic and so is the neighborhood, but there’s no affordable parking available.

I considered both schools during my college search. They’re both amazing and have great things to offer prospective students. However, their social scenes are extremely different. I know a hand full of kids who attend NYU and some of them just transferred out. I also have one friend who transferred from USC to NYU. My best advice beyond academics is to explore the social scenes and see which one you think is a better fit for you.
