NYU Poly or New Paltz?

I committed to SUNY New Paltz and today I just got that New York University Poly letter for their General Studies Program. I paid the deposit and orientation fees as well for New Paltz. I'll be paying 80k for 4 years at New Paltz and around 100k-160k for NYU Poly. Any suggestions? Can anyone tell me more about the general studies program at NYU Poly? Also can I switch to another school for NYU if I'd like too?

You should pick New Paltz if you will be paying less and you already sent in your deposit and want to study liberal arts instead of engineering. There’s no point in going to Poly if don’t like engineering. New Paltz and Poly are 2 different schools. Poly will be called NYU school of engineering this January. Of course you can internal transfer to other NYU schools … The general studies is like a program at poly for kids who don’t meet the standards for regular admission but shows potential to succeed. Usually, they use this programs as a test for those students to see if they can handle the work here. If not then they will dismiss you. Poly is a very rigorous engineering school and it’s for people who are serious about doing work.

I’m planning to go for neuroscience and possibly something w/ robotic technology. Will I be able to choose the classes I take at NYU Poly?

Also, i don’t think they allow general studies kids to transfer to other NYU schools the first year. You would need to keep up with your work and graduate from the general studies program first and then enroll in the normal program to transfer.

What do you plan on majoring in at New Paltz and Poly? Because Poly doesn’t have neuroscience as a major. I think you need to look up Poly and see the majors they have and you decide if you want to study any of the majors they offer. Also, general studies students don’t declare a major until the second year.

neither school has my major I would have to special during grad school. i’d have to wait 2nd year to transfer and declare major?

If you plan on going to grad school, sounds like you need to be less in debt and SUNY New paltz would be a better choice… Yes, at NYU poly for General studies kids have to wait until the second year or later to declare a major. Because they need to see if you can handle their work and be able to keep up. Poly is a serious engineering school like I said and you would need to work really hard. I don’t know why you applied to these schools if neither poly or new paltz have your major.
