I'm at odds ends trying to decide which one to go to. If I go to NJIT, its basically a full ride due to financial aid and scholarship award. However, I only got a $20,000 scholarship from NYU-POLY. I'd thus be looking at $60,000 in loans to pay off after graduating with B.S in Computer Science. The positive side however is that NYU-POLY has the 4th highest median starting pay in the nation(among engineering schools) plus there are a lot more high-paying jobs and internship/co-op opportunities in NYC metro area. It really driving me crazy, I want to take the risk and go to NYU-POLY but I don't want to screw myself over in the long run and
spend years paying off loans, whereas if I went to NJIT I would start with a lower paying job but overtime make considerably more. Any Advice?

thats tough. my bro goes to njit and he hates it. there is zero social atmosphere. i think nyu is a more socially fun school to be at. and its carries a great name. also nyu has woman njit has like 10 lol. but no debt is definitely a plus. u got a tough decision.

Why wouldn’t you want to go to NYU Poly, especially with a $20,000/year scholarship? I wouldn’t think twice if I were you. It’s a great school for engineering… and speaking of girls, there are more than you can manage just across the river in the Manhattan campus.

Heck, I’m barely familiar with “NJIT” and that’s just across the river in NJ.

I chose between NJIT, NYU-Poly, (and Carnegie Mellon). NJIT offered me a full ride include dorming and then money on top of that. NYU-Poly covered a bit less than the total tuition. CMU covered half tuition.

Personally, I ended up choosing NYU-Poly because I realized I wanted a small college (NJIT is pretty large), and I really like NYC. I wasn’t so crazy about Newark. I’m sure I would’ve done okay at both colleges. But I really like NYU-Poly; I think the people who work at Student Affairs completely hinder students, but every school has a dept where everyone’s off their rocker (right?), but everything else is hidden gold Both are good, and you’ll meet great/intelligent people at both schools, and if you’re ambitious enough, you’ll go far from any univ :)

I don’t think median starting salary should be too much of a factor when it comes to considering which school to attend. It’s just a median, after all.

“plus there are a lot more high-paying jobs and internship/co-op opportunities in NYC metro area.”
I’m living on campus at NJIT over the summer and commuting into NYC for an internship. It’s definitely doable. You can get from here to NY Penn in less than an hour, and to the World Trade Center in less than 40 minutes.

NJIT offered me a full ride, so being able to graduate debt-free made it a done deal. Two years in, and I’m not regretting my choice yet. If you want more info, feel free to PM me.

wait you wanted to do comp sci and you declined cmu? they are number one with that haha. did you not like it there? i though pittsburgh was nice when i visited it.

@static75 ^^^^^^^^ not the op

no, I loved it, but I would get $25k in financial aid, which meant I’d have to take up $80k in loans something I didn’t want to do. CMU is an amazing school, there’s no denying it.

fair enough nyu wasnt a bad alternative haha
