I’m deciding between the two. I would really like to live in a city and have access to a lot of social things to do. I would prefer to live in New York and not live in New Jersey for 4 more years. But Rutgers is far cheaper, and I’ve heard many bad things about poly.
I’m also debating between switching to pre-med too, so I don’t know how exactly that would change my choice.
The cost for me is ~15000 (Rutgers) vs ~51000 (NYU)
For engineering, NYU and Rutgers have similar ranking. If you are in the Honors College, you’ll already be ahead of most other students when it comes to getting research, internships, and other opportunities on campus. While the appeal of living in NYC can be a great plus, you really need to consider if spending $200k is worth that, especially if you are considering medical school which will cost $300k+. Personally, I don’t think it is. Plus, if you really do want to explore the city, you can get the train from New Brunswick to Penn Station for $26 round trip, takes a little over an hour.
Save the 120k and use that for medical school. Or anything else you might have to buy when you graduate. That’s a big difference. It’s nice coming out of college with minimal loans.
