I’m still trying to figure this out. so the interview’s for a selected pool of applicants? or does everyone get a chance?

Hopefully I can help! I know the NYUSH website says that everyone will be interviewed, but an admissions counselor and interviewer told me that they are only interviewing the competitive candidates.
As far as what the Interview was about, it will be different for different areas of the world. There are different interviewers depending on where you are from, so I can’t speak for everyone’s interview experience (unless you’re from North America! haha) but I agree with vintagerosery. It was extremely informative- I think they really want to make sure that people understand what NYUSH means and that it is a big deal to make a commitment to live in Shanghai for four years. However, they managed to work that in with a conversation, my answers to their questions lead the discussion. It wasn’t like they had a list of questions or anything- they legitimately seemed to want to get to know me and stuff. As long as you know yourself, why you would want to go to NYUSH, and research stuff about NYUSH (like their majors and location) I’d bet you’ll do fine Goodluck! I really hope I get to meet yall in the Fall!

Hey does anyone know what the dorms will look like? Apartment style vs. Doubles and if we have our own bathrooms?

^^^ Question of the year!!
Yeah, the dorms aren’t built yet- they don’t even have a picture of what they will look like online (they do for the academic building).
I think you can bet that they will be decent, considering that they will be brand-spankin’ new!!! but I hope that they will keep the “dorm-feel” that way it will be easier to get to know everyone. Im so excited! haha

yeah, if its anything like Abu Dhabi they’ll be pretty badass! ATleast from the pictures of their dorms! But, what about the dorms for the ECNU that we’re going to be sleeping in for the first year? or are we going to be rooming elsewhere?

We will be at ECNU And heres the link to all you could ever want to know about international student housing there haha

Housing

Oh, and whats funny about that is it says that they will be bumping most of the study abroad NYU students to off-campus apartments to accommodate us NYU Shanghai kids. Sorry to all the study abroad students :P

hello guys! i’m an international applicant from Indonesia (RD) and i just got my invitation for the interview. quite nervous because i didn’t expect this… my stats weren’t good but nonetheless i’m both excited and scared! would you mind giving me tips on how to nail the interview? thanks a lot :)

My interview is next Wednesday! I’m nervous! Does an interview request mean acceptance for RD applicants for sure?

hello everyone, mine is next thursday! of course it doesn’t, although I’d like to think so and even if it did, no one could know that (except AOs). nevertheless, we got interview so it means we were not rejected right away :D

Hi guys, I’m from India and mine is today in about 6 hours, quite nervous already. Gonna go do some research now

Hey guys! Oh my gosh, this thread just blew up while I was gone xD Yeah, getting an interview doesn’t mean acceptance, but it sure is close! I hope yall all the best luck with interviews, you can see some of the stuff I posted on previous pages about them It would be very cool to meet you guys in the future!

Hola! Had my interview! Went really well, I must say, so hopefully I’ll be seeing you guys soon :D

I am a Chinese student(18er) and I believe NYUSH is definiely going to be more popular than NYUAD, location really counts… Good luck to everyone!

Hopefully NYUSH will grow like NYUAD did. I absolutely love what NYU Shanghai is doing with this new campus, its completely innovative and I believe it will become the education system of the future.

heyy guys!! Congs to everyone getting interviews!! IMO, it means you’re really competitive, if you rock it, then good chance you’ll be in! Any ED kids here? Do you know when we have to go to Shanghai for the meet-up with other ED kids and hopefully some of the Chinese kids? the email says sometime in March? @thawowtso, d you know? have you got your visa yet or something?

@24thnkima
Yeah I applied EDI- they are flying the 14 EDI students out this month in three separate groups. They are groups of 4 to 5 students each and are only staying for two days (although you can add a couple days for transport if you live far away- Ill probably be on a plane for equally as long as I will actually be in Shanghai- ugh).

I met a guy who was accepted EDII in my area (such a coincidence!) and he said that he was being flown out in March as well, however he is not on the list of people going so I imagine that the EDII students are going out at a different time than the EDI.

As far as Visas go, I already had one so I didn’t need it- however from the Facebook page, the other EDI students just received their Visas and we are all going through the struggle of booking our plane tickets now.
The guy from my area who was EDII just received his Visa as well, although he told me that he was notified of his acceptance earlier than the date, so it might have gotten his Visa back earlier than the other EDII students.

So it was a bit of a bummer to learn that I’m really only gonna meet four other EDI students (we were all thinking it would be at the same time, since there were so few of us). However, hopefully we can meet some Chinese students since its during their CW as well, and I’m still totally psyched to get to see the campus and Shanghai!

Hey everyone! I applied to NYUSH regular decision and I have a few questions.

What’s the financial aid situation? Will it be generous or more like the New York campus? I really hope it’s generous otherwise there’s no way I’d be able to attend!

I know this upcoming class is the first so its unlikely anyone knows this, but what’s the acceptance rate? I know there will be 300 total (only 149 of non-Chinese), but does anyone know how many applied? What are my chances?

Stats:
Hispanic male, southern US
3.8 UW
2220/1480 SAT
700, 710, 740 SAT II (US history, literature, and math 2; respectively)
National Hispanic Scholar
National Merit Finalist
Multicultural Club President
Varsity Tennis team all years (captain senior year)
Volunteer work at Shriners Hospital
I think my essays were alright (its hard to judge my own writing, and of course parents will tell you it’s good)

I had my interview last week and from my end it seemed to go REALLY well, but of course I don’t know if my interviewer felt the same! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I read somewhere in this thread that no US males have gotten in yet? Surely this will help my chances?? I just really want to get in!!!

Thanks!

@cheetle

Yeah there is basically no information about what chances are like because its the first class. They got a decent amount of applicants, especially from China, however it seems that they didn’t get as many from the States.
As far as no males from the US being admitted, that is only true for the EDI pool. 14 students were admitted EDI and it just so happened that none of them were males from the US, however I know that there are males from the US accepted in the EDII pool.

With your stats, really just a couple of things. The first is not whether you will be admitted, it will be more like will you choose to go. You’re an Hispanic-American, which to the best of my knowledge there has not been another accepted, and you have outstanding stats. I really hate saying stuff like this on the off chance that I end up being wrong, but I’m willing to bet that you will be admitted. Like, I feel pretty positive about that. I know that a African-American from my area (North Texas) was admitted, and although he didn’t exactly tell me his stats, I got the impression that they were not that impressive.
Secondly, the RD pool (might) be more competitive (of course there is no way of telling). However, because they applied RD, their retainment rate might be pretty low. For example, from a person with your stats, I am sure you have been or will be accepted at some pretty prestigious schools. And the decision to turn down those offers and take a chance at a school that is truly an experiment (although, take a look at Abu Dhabi- that was an experiment too, and it was a great success) is a hard choice to make. So they took ED students knowing that they would be going, no matter what.

Ah! I don’t really know what to expect from the RD pool because of that situation, but I don’t feel too shady telling you that you will be admitted. It will really come down to whether or not NYUSH is the school for you- living in China for four years is not for everyone and it won’t be easy. But I see it as an experience that is truly one that no other university can offer you. Just look at the direction other schools are moving, (I know I’ve said this like a hundred times in this thread lol) NYU is not the only school that is trying to open campuses in China, but it is the first school to get permission to do so, and in my humble opinion, it will be the most successful (due to their long ties with ECNU). A global education is going to be necessary to succeed, and NYUSH offers that which no other school, not even Harvard, can!
Ok, ok, I digress. I could rant about how awesome NYUSH is all day any day

OH! And also you mentioned Financial Aid, and this could be something that would cause you to choose NYUSH (apart from all those other reasons I mentioned ). The financial aid (to those students who need it- since you are American this would probably be determined mostly on the FAFSA) has been very generous. Not at all-encompassing as the NYUAD campus, but much more than the NYUNY campus. Also, if you do not receive enough the first time, email them and truly explain that you will have to say no if they do not give you more- other students (albeit they were ED) have done this and had their FA upped.

^^^omg that was so long im sorry
